Radiation Matters of the Heart: A Mini Review
Radiation Therapy (RT) has been critical in cancer treatment regimens to date. However, it has been shown that ionizing radiation is also associated with increased risk of damage to healthy tissues.

Radiation Damage to Thoracic Tissues [PDF]
Lesions in the chest developing after radiotherapy in 49 patients are described. Of all the thoracic tissues the lungs proved the most vulnerable to radiation damage. The risk is increased when large areas of lung are irradiated, the total dosage is high, and the course of treatment is given quickly.

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Microgravity alleviates low-dose radiation-induced non-targeted carcinogenic effects
The main hazards astronauts face in space collectively affect their health, especially increasing the carcinogenesis risk. However, it is still unclear how these hazards, especially microgravity and space radiation, induce the carcinogenic transformation

The ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy as guardians of the cellular proteome
This Perspective covers the three principles governing the crosstalk between the ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy in cellular proteostasis: (1) a shared ubiquitin code routing substrates via shuttle factors or autophagy receptors; (2) spatial compartmentalization into phase‐separated degradation hubs and organelle‐specific modules (exemplified

Effect of SiC Radiation Damage on High Temperature Oxidation Resistance
Silicon carbide (SiC) materials have many excellent properties, especially high temperature oxidation resistance, radiation resistance and low reaction activity in the presence of water vapor.

X-ray-Induced Heating in the Vicinity of the X-ray Interaction Point
When X-rays pass through a material, radiation damage occurs, and heat is generated at the X-ray interaction point, which can then be transferred around the X-ray irradiation site. This X-ray-induced heat transfer can affect the temperature of the sample

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Nanoscale X-Ray Diffraction of Silk Fibers
This report focuses on current possibilities and perspectives of scanning X-ray nanodiffraction for probing nanoscale heterogeneities in silk fibers such as nanofibrils, skin-core morphologies, nanocrystalline inclusions and fine fibers down to submicron
