Effects of Structural Radiation Disorder in the Near-Surface Layer of Alloys Based on NbTiVZr Compounds Depending on the Variation of Alloy Components

open access: yesCrystals, 2023
This research investigated how changes in the composition of Nb–Ti–V–Zr-based alloys affect their resistance to radiation damage and the preservation of strength characteristics when exposed to the heavy ions Kr15+ and Xe23+.

The effect of added O_2 on the transmittance and radiation resistance of radiation resistant glasses

open access: yesOptics Express, 2010
One method of hardening optical glasses against radiation-induced darkening has been to add CeO(2) to the batch composition. In the present investigation we prepared a series of lanthanum crown glasses with varying degrees of CeO(2) additions and melted them at 1,400 °C with and without bubbling oxygen gas.

Effect of physiological age on radiation resistance of some bacteria that are highly radiation resistant [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 1984
Physiological age-dependent variation in radiation resistance was studied for three bacteria that are highly radiation resistant: Micrococcus radiodurans, Micrococcus sp. isolate C-3, and Moraxella sp. isolate 4. Stationary-phase cultures of M. radiodurans and isolate C-3 were much more resistant to gamma radiation than were log-phase cultures.

DIPOLE ANTENNAS WITH A SECTOR-SHAPED RADIATION PATTERN [PDF]

open access: yesRadio Physics and Radio Astronomy
Subject and Purpose. The directivity characteristics of a dipole antenna when it is placed above and parallel to a perfectly conducting screen of rectangular shape are considered, aiming to theoretically study dipole antennas with sector-shaped radiation

Radiation-attenuated schistosome vaccination--a brief historical perspective. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The high level of protection which can be induced by vaccination of a range of hosts, from rodents to primates, with live radiation-attenuated schistosome larvae offers great promise for development of a human schistosome vaccine.

Are Nanoporous Materials Radiation Resistant?

open access: yesNano Letters, 2011
The key to perfect radiation endurance is perfect recovery. Since surfaces are perfect sinks for defects, a porous material with a high surface to volume ratio has the potential to be extremely radiation tolerant, provided it is morphologically stable in a radiation environment. Experiments and computer simulations on nanoscale gold foams reported here

Isolation of radiation-resistant bacteria from Mars analog antarctic dry valleys by preselection, and the correlation between radiation and desiccation resistance

open access: yes, 2015
Extreme radiation–resistant microorganisms can survive doses of ionizing radiation far greater than are present in the natural environment. Radiation resistance is believed to be an incidental adaptation to desiccation resistance, as both hazards cause ...
