Monolithic Oxidation Enables Ultrathin Vertically Graded Tantalum Oxide for Low‐Voltage, Low‐Variability Memristive Switching

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Monolithic UV‐ozone oxidation of Ta forms an ultrathin Ta2O5/TaOx bilayer enabling resistive switching with a vertical defect gradient. A stoichiometric surface layer over an oxygen‐deficient sublayer promotes localized filament nucleation near the top interface, enabling low‐voltage operation, and reduced cycle‐to‐cycle variability.

Application of multidimensional scheme and the discrete ordinate method to radiative heat transfer in a two-dimensional enclosure with diffusely emitting and reflecting boundary walls

open access: yes, 2015
Radiative heat transfer is the dominant mode of heat transfer in many engineering problems, including combustion chambers, space, greenhouses, rocket plume sensing, among others.

Tuning the Optoelectronic Properties of Wide Bandgap Perovskites: Data‐Driven Insights from Combinatorial Synthesis and High‐Throughput Experimentation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Combinatorial vapor deposition enables independent tuning of Cs/Pb and Br/Cl in wide‐bandgap perovskites. Automated multimodal mapping of 500+ compositions reveals a high‐energy optical transition that correlates with enhanced photoluminescence, defining a practical Cs/Pb window.

A parametric radiative transfer model for sky radiance distribution

open access: yes, 1996
A parametric model of sky radiance distribution is developed using radiative transfer theory. The radiation field is divided into four components: single-scattering; double-scattering; quasi-multiple-scattering; and surface related component.

Operando Tracking of Oxygen‐Vacancy Dynamics and Negative Capacitance in Ca‐Doped BiFeO3

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Operando electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, combined with electrocoloration, enables a direct correlation between real‐space ionic redistribution and the corresponding frequency‐domain electrical response. In lateral Ca‐doped BiFeO3 devices, time‐resolved impedance snapshots capture the evolution from bulk‐dominated mixed conduction to an ...

Functionalizing Micro‐to‐Mesoscopic Electrode Architectures for Regulating Electron Transfer Behaviors in Electrocatalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A systematic review is conducted to assess the influence of electrode architecture across micro‐ to mesoscopic length scales on electron‐transfer pathways in electrocatalysis. We discuss the structure‐activity relationships in electrocatalytic applications, including resource recovery and environmental remediation, and provide cost‐effective, efficient

Binary‐to‐Ternary Reconfigurable Transistors Using Plasma‐Assisted MoS2

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A binary‐to‐ternary reconfigurable transistor is demonstrated using a dual‐gated molybdenum disulfide homojunction with localized O2 plasma treatment. The device exhibits on/intermediate and intermediate/off current ratios of 102 and 104, respectively, and the intermediate state is electrically tunable in the ternary mode.

Second Order Closures for the Radiative Transfer Equation: Some Are Unstable

open access: yesThe Open Journal of Astrophysics
The largest existing simulations of cosmic reionization model radiative transfer with moment methods that require a closure relation. The two most commonly used closure relations are M1 and OTVET; both close the moment hierarchy at the first moment.

Absorption lookup tables in the radiative transfer model ARTS

open access: yes, 2011
We describe the lookup table approach that is used to store pre-calculated absorption data in the radiative transfer model ARTS. The table stores absorption cross sections as a function of frequency, pressure, temperature, and the water vapor volume ...

2D Co‐Assembly of Solid Acids Enables Stable Superprotonic Conduction Above 260°C

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A two‐dimensional co‐assembly strategy integrates antimony phosphate and phosphotungstic acid nanosheets into free‐standing inorganic lamellar membranes with confined acid–acid interfaces. The resulting interfacial hydrogen‐bond network enables anhydrous proton conductivity exceeding 0.1 S cm−1 at 260°C and supports stable high‐temperature fuel‐cell ...
