Calculation of radiative thickness using spherical harmonic methods for the radiative transfer equation

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics
The radiative transfer equation (RTE) plays a fundamental role in modeling photon transport in various media such as biological tissues and atmospheric systems, where scattering phenomena are critical. In this study, the RTE is solved using two spherical

Quasi Two-dimensional Transfer of Elastic Waves

open access: yes, 2001
A theory for multiple scattering of elastic waves is presented in a random medium bounded by two ideal free surfaces, whose horizontal size is infinite and whose transverse size is smaller than the mean free path of the waves.

Influence of an Argon/Silane Atmosphere on the Temperature of a Thermal Plasma

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of a silane‐doped argon atmosphere on the chemical composition and temperature of a thermal nontransferring argon plasma is investigated using optical emission spectroscopy. As a result of the high amount of free electrons resulting from the stepwise ionization and dissociation of the silane molecule, even a silane addition of 0.01 vol ...

Irradiated Atmosphere. V. Effects of Vertical-mixing Induced Energy Transport on the Inhomogeneity

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Atmospheric variations over time and space boost planetary cooling, as outgoing internal flux responds to stellar radiation and opacity. Vertical mixing regulates this cooling.

TRAPHIC - Radiative Transfer for Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics Simulations

open access: yes, 2008
We present TRAPHIC, a novel radiative transfer scheme for Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) simulations. TRAPHIC is designed for use in simulations exhibiting a wide dynamic range in physical length scales and containing a large number of light ...

Radiative transfer equation in spherical symmetry

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1985
A numerical solution of the radiative transfer equation in spherically symmetric geometry is presented using integral operators within the framework of the discrete space theory and expressing the specific intensity in terms of the nodal values of the radius-angle mesh.

Air‐Pressure–Actuated Vibroacoustic Metamaterial With Tunable Bandgap: Design, Modeling, and Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents the design, modeling, and characterization of air‐pressure–actuated programmable vibroacoustic metamaterials (PVAMM). The study focuses on leveraging air pressure to dynamically tune resonance frequencies for effective noise attenuation.

Irradiated Atmospheres. III. Radiative-convective-mixing Equilibrium for Nongray Picket-fence Model

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The nongray picket-fence model predicts more accurately the temperatures in low-density regions compared to semigray models. This study investigates how the vertical-mixing and convection fluxes modify the picket-fence model.

Effect of Laser Deoxidation on Adhesive‐Bonded Aluminum in an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser ablation of aluminum under oxygen‐free conditions. The goal is to produce oxide‐free substrates that enable improved adhesive bonding with epoxy. Optimized laser parameters (90% overlap, 300 µJ) combined with oxide‐free substrates result in the highest tensile strength of the adhesive bond.
