Optimizing photoactivation of PA‐mCherry for optical pooled CRISPR screens

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Photoactivatable PA‐mCherry finds widespread use to optically tag individual cells. However, confocal 405 nm UV laser‐scanning (normal scan) is much less efficient than widefield UV illumination, limiting the use of PA‐mCherry on confocal instruments. We remedy this limitation by reporting that rapid and repeated confocal scanning with a low‐intensity,

Versatile vector tools for efficient protein screening across multiple expression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A unified vector toolkit enables rapid protein expression screening across E. coli, insect, and mammalian cells. A single primer pair amplifies the target gene, which is inserted into any vector via a standardized interface. This streamlined workflow eliminates repeated cloning steps, accelerating the identification of optimal expression conditions for

Mesoscopic lattice Boltzmann model for radiative heat transfer in graded-index media

open access: yesPhysical Review Research, 2022
Convection, conduction, and thermal radiation are the three mechanisms of heat transfer in nature. The lattice Boltzmann model (LBM) has already achieved great success in dealing with convection and conduction problems.

A radiative transfer model for an idealized and non-scattering atmosphere and its application for ground-based remote sensing

open access: yes, 2011
Inversion of tropospheric profiles from ground-based microwavemeasurements requires a simple and accurate model for calculating the brightness temperatures as received by the radiometer.

Low‐Cost, Large‐Scale Nanoporous Metals by Mechanical Alloying, Oxide Reduction, and Dealloying of Powders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Powder metal processing provides scalable advantages in nanoporous (np) metal development. Mechanical alloying is used to produce unique precursors for hybrid nanopore formation by oxide reduction and dealloying. As demonstrated in np Ag, this approach improves process efficiency while promoting smaller ligaments and larger pores, both of which are ...

Refractive index imaging from radiative transfer equation-based reconstruction algorithm: Fundamentals

open access: yes, 2011
We present the first reconstruction algorithm for refractive index imaging, which is based on the radiative transfer equation (RTE). An objective function is iteratively minimized to find a solution to the problem of inversion of the refractive index ...

A study of the radiative transfer equation using a spherical harmonics-nodal collocation method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
[EN] Optical tomography has found many medical applications that need to know how the photons interact with the different tissues. The majority of the photon transport simulations are done using the diffusion approximation, but this approximation has a ...

Characterization of Aluminized Layers on Inconel‐738 Alloy: Microstructure, Modeling of Aluminizing Kinetics, and Thermal Behavior

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explored how effective nickel aluminide coatings are obtained in providing oxidation resistance applied to the Inconel 738 alloy, modeling with diffusion models. In the present study, kinetics and thermal behavior of the Inconel 738 alloy were studied by the low‐temperature thermoreactive aluminizing process, which was carried out at 625°C ...

Determination of physical properties of fibrous thermal insulation

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2012
The objective of this study is to characterize both experimentally and theoretically, conductive and radiative heat transfer within polyester batting. This material is derived from recycled bottles (PET) with fibres of constant diameters.

The Radiative Transfer Equation in the Forward-Peaked Regime [PDF]

open access: yesCommunications in Mathematical Physics, 2015
In this work we study the radiative transfer equation in the forward-peaked regime in free space. Specifically, it is shown that the equation is well-posed by proving instantaneous regularization of weak solutions for arbitrary initial datum in L1. Classical techniques for hypo-elliptic operators such as averaging lemma are used in the argument.
