Cytoplasmic p21 promotes stemness of colon cancer cells via activation of the NFκB pathway

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytoplasmic p21 promotes colorectal cancer stem cell (CSC) features by destabilizing the NFκB–IκB complex, activating NFκB signaling, and upregulating BCL‐xL and COX2. In contrast to nuclear p21, cytoplasmic p21 enhances spheroid formation and stemness transcription factor CD133.

Sensitization of renal carcinoma cells to TRAIL-induced apoptosis by rocaglamide and analogs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Rocaglamide has been reported to sensitize several cell types to TRAIL-induced apoptosis. In recent years, advances in synthetic techniques have led to generation of novel rocaglamide analogs.

Molecular mechanism of Raf kinase inhibitory protein regulation by cAMP‐dependent protein kinase (802.25)

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, 2014
Raf Kinase Inhibitory Protein (RKIP), a 21 kDa protein and member of phosphatidylethanolamine binding protein (PEBP) family, regulates GPCR, MAPK, and NFκB pathways and is a metastasis suppressor. Although, kinases such as ERK2 and PKCα have been shown to phosphorylate RKIP, structural data on the protein kinase‐RKIP interaction are still lacking. Here

Molecular characterisation of human penile carcinoma and generation of paired epithelial primary cell lines

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Generation of two normal and tumour (cancerous) paired human cell lines using an established tissue culture technique and their characterisation is described. Cell lines were characterised at cellular, protein, chromosome and gene expression levels and for HPV status.

The Pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidine-Based Kinase Inhibitor NVP-BHG712: Effects of Regioisomers on Tumor Growth, Perfusion, and Hypoxia in EphB4-Positive A375 Melanoma Xenografts

open access: yesMolecules, 2020
In a previous study, EphB4 was demonstrated to be a positive regulator of A375-melanoma growth but a negative regulator of tumor vascularization and perfusion.

Tumor-stroma interactions influence the response to PI3K targeted agents in preclinical models of colorectal cancer (CRC) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Introduction: One of the main obstacle to the successful development of therapeutic strategies remains the identification of biomarker underlying drug resistance. Recently, investigators have become more aware the role of the tumor microenvironment (TME)

The molecular basis for ethnic variation and histological subtype differences in prostate cancer. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Prostate cancer is a common malignancy among men in Western countries. Recently the morbidity and mortality of prostate cancer increase dramatically in several oriental countries including China.

Exploiting metabolic adaptations to overcome dabrafenib treatment resistance in melanoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that dabrafenib‐resistant melanoma cells undergo mitochondrial remodeling, leading to elevated respiration and ROS production balanced by stronger antioxidant defenses. This altered redox state promotes survival despite mitochondrial damage but renders resistant cells highly vulnerable to ROS‐inducing compounds such as PEITC, highlighting redox

Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitors Stimulate HLA Class I Expression by Augmenting the IFNγ/STAT1 Signaling in Hepatocellular Carcinoma Cells

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2021
Combination treatment with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) and immunotherapies has shown efficacy in the treatment of multiple cancers, but the immunomodulatory effect of TKIs on the tumor cell phenotype remains unknown in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC)
