Simple Protocol for Molecular Fingerprinting of Human Oral Microbiota Samples in Lab Classes

open access: yesJournal of Microbiology & Biology Education, 2018
DNA fingerprinting is a major tool in identifying individuals and in evidence matching. However, this technique can be difficult to reproduce in practical classes. Here, we report on distinct PCR profiles obtained when amplifying saliva DNA of a score of

Application of the random amplified polymorphic DNA technique in a study of heterosis in common carp, Cyprinus carpio L.

open access: yesAquaculture Research, 1998
Random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis was applied to three varieties of common carp, Cyprinus carpio L.: Xingguo red carp, German mirror carp and Russian mirror carp. Twenty-seven decamer primers pre-screened from 40 random primers were used to assay polymorphisms within and between the populations. One hundred and ninety-nine fragments were

The T‐Cell Response Mechanism in Human Papillomavirus‐Associated Cervical Cancer and New Strategies for Immunotherapy

open access: yesiNew Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a double‐stranded DNA virus that infects human skin and mucosal tissues exclusively. The German scientist Harald zur Hausen was awarded the 2008 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his discovery of the link between HPV infection and cervical cancer.

Assessment of genetic relationship between Klebsiella pneumoniae and Klebsiella oxytoca samples isolated from a dental office

open access: yesJournal of Venomous Animals and Toxins including Tropical Diseases, 2008
The present study aimed to analyze the genetic similarity between genomic profiles of thirteen Klebsiella oxytoca and seven Klebsiella pneumoniae samples isolated from two different collections carried out in different places of dental offices.

Molecular Markers for Genetic Diversity Studies in African Leafy Vegetables [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
African leafy vegetables are becoming important crops in tackling nutrition and food security in many parts of sub-Saharan Africa, since they provide important micronutrients and vitamins, and help resource-poor farm families bridge lean periods of food ...

Ovarian Cancer: Epidemiology, Disease Mechanisms, New Diagnosis and Treatment Strategies, and Research Directions

open access: yesiNew Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Ovarian cancer (OC) continues to be the deadliest gynecological malignancy and a significant cause of cancer‐related mortality among women worldwide. Standard treatment strategies typically entail platinum‐based chemotherapy in conjunction with cytoreductive surgery.

RAPD optimization for genetic studies with Citrulus lanatus and Sesamum indicum genotypes

open access: yesCrop Breeding and Applied Biotechnology, 2006
The Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) technique is powerful for DNA polymorphism determinations and is widely used in research involving different organisms, but it is known that RAPD can be affected by many factors that may result in false ...

Genetic polymorphism among 14 elite Coffea arabica L. cultivars using RAPD markers associated with restriction digestion

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Biology, 2003
Knowledge of the genetic variability among genotypes is important for the transfer of useful genes and to maximize the use of available germplasm resources. This study was carried out to assess the genetic variability of 14 elite Coffea arabica cultivars

Short communication. Strain heterogeneity in Mycoplasma pullorum isolates identified by random amplified polymorphic DNA techniques

open access: yesSpanish Journal of Agricultural Research, 2004
Mycoplasmas were isolated from chickens with respiratory problems during field investigations of a concentrated respiratory disease outbreak in western Cuba, 1997. A high percentage of mycoplasma cultures from tracheas and air-sac lesions yielded pure cultures of Mycoplasma pullorum.
