A Simple Gamma Random Number Generator for Arbitrary Shape Parameters [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper proposes an improved gamma random generator. In the past, a lot of gamma random number generators have been proposed, and depending on a shape parameter (say, alpha) they are roughly classified into two cases: (i) alpha lies on the interval (0,

Relations within sequences of congruential pseudo-random numbers

open access: yes, 1969
Conditions are exhibited under which simple, approximate linear relations may be found between sets of successive choices made by congruential pseudo- random number generators.

Differential expression of cancer‐related genes supports prediction of poor response to first‐line treatments in T‐ALL pediatric patients with high minimal residual disease

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the present work, we have identified a transcriptional signature based on the differential expression of six genes (BCL2&MAST4, HSH2D&LAT2, METRN&PITPNM2) that would facilitate the early detection of T‐cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T‐ALL) patients prone to a poor treatment response and could be implemented at diagnosis, along with other risk ...

A Hardware Generator of Multi-point Distributed Random Numbers for Monte Carlo Simulation [PDF]

open access: yes
Monte Carlo simulation of weak approximations of stochastic differential equations constitutes an intensive computational task. In applications such as finance, for instance, to achieve "real time" execution, as often required, one needs highly efficient

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

Entropy extractor based high-throughput post-processings for True Random Number Generators

open access: yesTransactions on Cryptographic Hardware and Embedded Systems
In cryptographic systems, true random number generation is essential, as a compromised TRNG could lead to a security catastrophe. The raw random numbers are discrete values that are derived at discrete points in time from a noise source of a TRNG. These

Minimal and random generation of permutation and matrix groups

open access: yes, 2012
We prove explicit bounds on the numbers of elements needed to generate various types of finite permutation groups and finite completely reducible matrix groups, and present examples to show that they are sharp in all cases.

Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

Assessing the quality of random number generators through neural networks

open access: yesMachine Learning: Science and Technology
In this paper we address the use of Neural Networks (NNs) for the assessment of the quality and hence safety of several Random Number Generators (RNGs), focusing both on the vulnerability of classical Pseudo Random Number Generators (PRNGs), such as ...

An Evolutionary Approach to the Design of Controllable Cellular Automata Structure for Random Number Generation

open access: yes, 2003
Cellular Automata (CA) has been used in pseudorandom number generation over a decade. Recent studies show that two-dimensional (2-d) CA Pseudorandom Number Generators (PRNGs) may generate better random sequences than conventional one-dimensional (1-d) CA
