Exclusion statistics and lattice random walks

open access: yesNuclear Physics B, 2019
We establish a connection between exclusion statistics with arbitrary integer exclusion parameter g and a class of random walks on planar lattices, relating the generating function for the algebraic area of closed walks on the lattice to the grand ...

Directivity of Quantum Walk via Its Random Walk Replica

open access: yesComplexity, 2022
Quantum walks (QWs) exhibit different properties compared with classical random walks (RWs), most notably by linear spreading and localization. In the meantime, random walks that replicate quantum walks, which we refer to as quantum-walk-replicating ...

Random walks with barriers [PDF]

open access: yesNature Physics, 2011
Restrictions to molecular motion by barriers (membranes) are ubiquitous in porous media, composite materials and biological tissues. A major challenge is to characterize the microstructure of a material or an organism nondestructively using a bulk transport measurement.

AAA+ protein unfoldases—the Moirai of the proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
AAA+ unfoldases are essential molecular motors that power protein degradation and disaggregation. This review integrates recent cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) structures and single‐molecule biophysical data to reconcile competing models of substrate translocation.

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Power-law random walks

open access: yes, 2006
We present some new results about the distribution of a random walk whose independent steps follow a $q-$Gaussian distribution with exponent $\frac{1}{1-q}; q \in \mathbb{R}$.

Random walks. I [PDF]

open access: yesTransactions of the American Mathematical Society, 1969
Our method gives a new proof of (A) in the integer case and of the renewal theorem in this transient case. The essential ideas in the proof of (A) are contained in ?1 where we prove a slightly weaker theorem. ?2 contains a proof of (A) and also a proof of the variant mentioned above.

LDAcoop: Integrating non‐linear population dynamics into the analysis of clonogenic growth in vitro

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Limiting dilution assays (LDAs) quantify clonogenic growth by seeding serial dilutions of cells and scoring wells for colony formation. The fraction of negative wells is plotted against cells seeded and analyzed using the non‐linear modeling of LDAcoop.

Random Walks and Spin Projections

open access: yesQuantum Reports
The purpose of this article is to highlight the connections between two seemingly distinct domains: random walks and the distribution of angular-momentum projections in quantum physics (the magnetic quantum numbers m).

Field theories for loop-erased random walks

open access: yesNuclear Physics B, 2019
Self-avoiding walks (SAWs) and loop-erased random walks (LERWs) are two ensembles of random paths with numerous applications in mathematics, statistical physics and quantum field theory.
