In vitro properties of patient serum predict clinical outcome after high dose rate brachytherapy of hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Following high dose rate brachytherapy (HDR‐BT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), patients were classified as responders and nonresponders. Post‐therapy serum induced increased BrdU incorporation and Cyclin E expression of Huh7 and HepG2 cells in nonresponders, but decreased levels in responders.

A Randomized Depression Prevention Trial Comparing Interpersonal Psychotherapy—Adolescent Skills Training To Group Counseling In Schools [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Given the rise in depression disorders in adolescence, it is important to develop and study depression prevention programs for this age group. The current study examined the efficacy of Interpersonal Psychotherapy-Adolescent Skills Training (IPT-AST), a ...

Efficient randomized-adaptive designs

open access: yes, 2009
Response-adaptive randomization has recently attracted a lot of attention in the literature. In this paper, we propose a new and simple family of response-adaptive randomization procedures that attain the Cramer--Rao lower bounds on the allocation ...

Yoga for generalized anxiety disorder: design of a randomized controlled clinical trial. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is a common disorder associated with significant distress and interference. Although cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) has been shown to be the most effective form of psychotherapy, few patients receive or have access ...

Plasma extrachromosomal circular DNA as a biomarker in EGFR‐targeted therapy of non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Detection of extrachromosomal circular DNA (eccDNA) in plasma samples from EGFR‐mutated non‐small cell lung cancer patients. Plasma was collected before and during treatment with the EGFR‐tyrosine kinase inhibitor osimertinib. Plasma eccDNA was detected in all cancer samples, and the presence of the EGFR gene on eccDNA serves as a potential biomarker ...

Adaptive strategies in unrelated question randomized response techniques for sensitive data collection

open access: yesResearch in Statistics
When surveys involve sensitive issues-such as gambling habits, drug addiction, alcoholism, tax evasion, induced abortions, drunk driving, criminal history, or homosexuality non-response and response biases frequently occur, as respondents may be ...

Stronger instruments via integer programming in an observational study of late preterm birth outcomes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In an optimal nonbipartite match, a single population is divided into matched pairs to minimize a total distance within matched pairs. Nonbipartite matching has been used to strengthen instrumental variables in observational studies of treatment effects,

Liquid biopsy epigenetics: establishing a molecular profile based on cell‐free DNA

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) fragments in plasma from cancer patients carry epigenetic signatures reflecting their cells of origin. These epigenetic features include DNA methylation, nucleosome modifications, and variations in fragmentation. This review describes the biological properties of each feature and explores optimal strategies for harnessing cfDNA ...

A novel randomized scrambling technique for mean estimation of a finite population

open access: yesHeliyon
In recent decades, the randomized response technique has attracted researchers due to its usefulness in sensitive surveys. The randomized response procedure is used for the collection of responses on sensitive issues such as cheating in examination ...

New Randomization Technique to Estimate the Population Mean of Quantitative Sensitive Variable [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematical, Engineering and Management Sciences
Sensitive topics such as workplace misconduct, corporate fraud, unethical decision-making, diversity and inclusion challenges, and leadership accountability often present significant obstacles in survey research.
