Warming‐Mediated Decreases in Nectar Quality Translate Into Lower Energy Reserves of the Monarch Butterfly (Danaus plexippus)

Warming caused a significant decrease in monarch fat mass, likely due to an observed reduction in sucrose concentration caused by warming of the nectar. Since sucrose fuels fall migration and overwintering, our results suggest climate warming may reduce migration success and overwinter survival.

Seasonal drivers of plant–soil–microbial community structure and functions in Western Himalayan grasslands, Pakistan

Plant species richness was greater in summer in both alpine and subalpine grassland ecosystems. Soil moisture demonstrates significant positive correlations with soil organic carbon and total nitrogen across seasonal periods. Microbial α‐diversity peaks during summer but maintains functional stability across seasons.

Effect of rare sugars on physiology of yeast Candida tropicalis pK233 was studied. Of rare sugars tested, L-sorbose exerted a significant effect. L-Sorbose inhibited growth strongly and brought about pseudhyphal growth in the absence of D-glucose. This effect was not shown in the presence of D-glucose.
