Comparison of the Pathogenesis of the Angola and Ravn Strains of Marburg Virus in the Outbred Guinea Pig Model [PDF]
Phylogenetic comparisons of known Marburg virus (MARV) strains reveal 2 distinct genetic lineages: Ravn and the Lake Victoria Marburg complex (eg, Musoke, Popp, and Angola strains). Nucleotide variances of >20% between Ravn and other MARV genomes suggest that differing virulence between lineages may accompany this genetic divergence.

Micro‒Global Positioning Systems for Identifying Nightly Opportunities for Marburg Virus Spillover to Humans by Egyptian Rousette Bats [PDF]
Marburg virus disease, caused by Marburg and Ravn orthomarburgviruses, emerges sporadically in sub-Saharan Africa and is often fatal in humans. The natural reservoir is the Egyptian rousette bat (ERB), which sheds virus in saliva, urine, and feces ...

A rabies virus-vectored vaccine expressing two copies of the Marburg virus glycoprotein gene induced neutralizing antibodies against Marburg virus in humanized mice [PDF]
Marburg virus disease (MVD) is a lethal viral haemorrhagic fever caused by Marburg virus (MARV) with a case fatality rate as high as 88%. There is currently no vaccine or antiviral therapy approved for MVD.

Evaluation of long-term immunity following inoculation with highly diverse orthomarburgvirus isolates in Egyptian rousette bats (Rousettus aegyptiacus) [PDF]
Viral coinfections and their impact on long-term immunity represent an understudied area in disease ecology and infectious disease research. Coinfections can influence the host’s susceptibility to future infections, alter host and pathogen population ...

Shedding of Marburg Virus in Naturally Infected Egyptian Rousette Bats, South Africa, 2017
We detected Marburg virus RNA in rectal swab samples from Egyptian rousette bats in South Africa in 2017. This finding signifies that fecal contamination of natural bat habitats is a potential source of infection for humans.

Filovirus RefSeq Entries: Evaluation and Selection of Filovirus Type Variants, Type Sequences, and Names [PDF]
Sequence determination of complete or coding-complete genomes of viruses is becoming common practice for supporting the work of epidemiologists, ecologists, virologists, and taxonomists.

Serologic evidence of orthomarburgviruses and an orthoebolavirus in frugivorous Malagasy bats [PDF]
Recent outbreaks of Marburg virus disease in regions of sub-Saharan Africa without prior record such as Ghana, Tanzania, Equatorial Guinea, and Rwanda challenge the current understanding of areas at-risk for filovirus spillover.

Rodent adapted marburg viruses are lethal in ferrets [PDF]
Ferrets are highly susceptible to infection with several orthoebolaviruses, including Ebola virus (EBOV), yet they are refractory to infection with the orthomarburgviruses, Marburg virus (MARV) and Ravn virus.

Egyptian rousette bats (Rousettus aegyptiacus) are natural reservoir hosts of Marburg virus (MARV), and Ravn virus (RAVV; collectively called marburgviruses) and have been linked to human cases of Marburg virus disease (MVD). We investigated the clinical
