Extracellular vesicles in pharmacology: Innovations in drug delivery and therapeutic applications in cancer

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are a diverse population of membrane nanoparticles secreted by nearly all cell types, playing a key role in intercellular communication by transferring bioactive macromolecular cargo. In cancer, EVs shape both the local tumour microenvironment and distant premetastatic niches.

SHIP1 regulates TREM2 signalling and macrophage functions in a hiPSC‐derived model

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
In this study, we characterised the role of SHIP1 in regulating TREM2 signalling and global microglial myeloid functions using human‐induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC)‐derived macrophages. Knockout of SHIP1 (SHIP1 KO) in macrophages decreased inflammatory activation and levels of scavenger receptors. SHIP1 KO macrophages also exhibited reduced TREM2

Immunometabolic Modulation by Low‐Dose Sodium Butyrate: PI3K/Akt/mTOR Signalling Orchestrates Macrophage Polarization to Protect Against Clostridioides difficile Colitis

open access: yesImmunology, EarlyView.
Clostridioides difficile toxins TcdA and TcdB enter intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) via specific receptors, disrupt tight‐junction integrity and activate PI3K/Akt/mTOR signalling, promoting inflammasome assembly and IL‐1β release. Toxin‐induced IEC apoptosis further weakens the epithelial barrier.

Stem Cells From Dental Pulp, Periodontal Tissues, and Other Oral Sources: Biological Concepts and Regenerative Potential

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
A graphical abstract recapping the different sources of dental, periodontal, and other oral‐derived mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) and their regenerative mechanisms and potentials. The review's article findings bridge fundamental biological science with translational advances, highlighting the significance of MSCs in craniofacial regenerative ...
