Oxidative Stress and Microvessel Barrier Dysfunction

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2020
Clinical and experimental evidence indicate that increased vascular permeability contributes to many disease-associated vascular complications. Oxidative stress with increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) has been implicated in a wide ...

Screening and epitope characterization of Nidogen‐2‐specific nanobodies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Camel immunization and phage display were employed to generate high‐affinity VHH nanobodies against Nidogen‐2. After library construction, biopanning, ELISA screening, sequencing, and recombinant expression, selected nanobodies were purified and characterized, leading to the preliminary exploration of a nanobody‐based sandwich ELISA for specific ...

Peroxisomal regulation of redox homeostasis and adipocyte metabolism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Peroxisomes are ubiquitous cellular organelles required for specific pathways of fatty acid oxidation and lipid synthesis, and until recently their functions in adipocytes have not been well appreciated.

Photochemistry in the arctic free troposphere: NOx budget and the role of odd nitrogen reservoir recycling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The budget of nitrogen oxides (NOx) in the arctic free troposphere is calculated with a constrained photochemical box model using aircraft observations from the Tropospheric O3 Production about the Spring Equinox (TOPSE) campaign between February and May.

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Dissolved black nitrogen: an overlooked active nano-catalyst in the abiotic transformation of chlorophenols by sulfides in the subsurface water

open access: yesBiochar
The incomplete combustion of biomass and fossil fuels results in the formation of not only black carbon (BC) but also black nitrogen (BN), the dissolved fractions of which (i.e., DBC and DBN) are important components of dissolved organic matter pool ...

Contribution of particulate nitrate to airborne measurements of total reactive nitrogen [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Simultaneous measurements of speciated, total reactive nitrogen (NOy) and particulate NO3 (particle diameter <1.3 μm) were made on board the NASA P-3B aircraft over the western Pacific in February-April 2001 during the Transport and Chemical Evolution

Reactive nitrogen species and cardiovascular diseases

open access: yesRomanian Journal of Military Medicine, 2018
Oxidative stress plays a major part in the development of chronic and degenerative diseases such as cancer, arthritis, aging, autoimmune disorders, cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States and Europe and is poised to become the most significant health problem worldwide ...

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.
