Interleukin-6 and its receptor in autoimmunity
Journal of Autoimmunity, 1992Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a multifunctional cytokine which acts on a wide variety of cells, regulating immune response, acute phase reaction and hematopoiesis. In accordance with its pleiotropic functions, IL-6 is indicated to be involved in the pathogenesis of several diseases including autoimmunities, lymphoid malignancies and inflammations.

1995Abstract The human IL-6 receptor consists of 468 amino acids, including a signal peptide of 19 amino acids, an extracellular region of 339 amino acids, a membrane-spanning region of 28 amino acids, and a cytoplasmic region of 82 amino acids (Yamasaki et al. 1988) (GenBank accession numbers M20566, X12830).
