We have reported previously that canine livers possess two distinct lipoprotein receptors, an apoprotein (apo)-B,E receptor capable of binding the apo-B-containing low density lipoproteins (LDL) and the apo-E-containing cholesterol-induced high density ...

Modelling the inflammatory process in atherosclerosis: a nonlinear renewal equation [PDF]
We present here a population structured model to describe the dynamics of macrophage cells. The model involves the interactions between modified LDL, monocytes/macrophages, cytokines and foam cells. The key assumption is that the individual macrophage dynamics depends on the amount of lipoproteins it has internalized.

By decreasing cholesterol and lipid raft levels in the plasma membrane, proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) boosts human epidermal growth factor receptor 1 and 3 (EGFR and HER3) activation, driving tumor growth and metastasis in triple‐negative breast cancer (TNBC).

Low-density lipoprotein (LDL) is the most abundant and the most atherogenic class of cholesterol-carrying lipoproteins in human plasma. The level of plasma LDL is regulated by the LDL receptor, a cell surface glycoprotein that removes LDL from plasma by ...

Lipid metabolism in pancreatic cancer: emerging roles and potential targets
Abstract Pancreatic cancer is one of the most serious health issues in developed and developing countries, with a 5‐year overall survival rate currently <9%. Patients typically present with advanced disease due to vague symptoms or lack of screening for early cancer detection.

Regulation of macrophage apoE secretion and sterol efflux by the LDL receptor
Factors that regulate apolipoprotein E (apoE) secretion by macrophages will have important effects on vessel wall lipid flux and atherosclerosis. Macrophages express the LDL receptor, which binds apoE with high affinity and could thereby affect the net ...

PCSK9: A Potential Therapeutic Target for Sepsis
Sepsis is a life-threatening organ dysfunction syndrome caused by a dysregulated host response to infection. Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) is often upregulated in the presence of sepsis and infectious diseases.

The very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) receptor is a member of the low-density lipoprotein (LDL) receptor family. In vitro and in vivo studies have shown that VLDL receptor binds triglyceride (TG)-rich lipoproteins but not LDL, and functions as a peripheral remnant lipoprotein receptor.

By studying the maturation mechanisms of vasopressin (AVP), this manuscript identifies FAM134B‐mediated ER‐phagy as a critical pathway for degrading both aggregated proAVP and the key ERAD component, HRD1. HRD1 induction mitigates proAVP aggregation and support AVP neuron function in the absence of autophagy.
