A Dynamical Model of Lipoprotein Metabolism [PDF]
We present a dynamical model of lipoprotein metabolism derived by combining a cascading process in the blood stream and cellular level regulatory dynamics. We analyse the existence and stability of equilibria and show that this low-dimensional, nonlinear model exhibits bistability between a low and a high cholesterol state.

Detection in Molecular Communications with Ligand Receptors under Molecular Interference [PDF]
Molecular Communications (MC) is a bio-inspired communication technique that uses molecules to transfer information among bio-nano devices. In this paper, we focus on the detection problem for biological MC receivers employing ligand receptors to infer the transmitted messages encoded into the concentration of molecules, i.e., ligands.

A mitochondria‐targeted cationic nanoscale metal organic framework shows strong radiotherapy‐radiodynamic therapy effects and selectively releases digitonin in acidic tumor microenvironments to induce disulfidptosis of cancer cells and downregulate immune checkpoints in cancer and T cells, thereby eliciting strong antitumor immunity to effectively ...

High density lipoprotein receptors, binding proteins, and ligands
Several HDL binding proteins, quite disparate in structure, have recently been cloned and their role in HDL metabolism is currently being assessed. High density lipoprotein binding protein, HBP (vigilin), which lacks a transmembrane domain is responsive ...

Lipoprotein Receptors, Macrophages, and Sphingomyelinase [PDF]
Cholesteryl ester–filled macrophages are the hallmark of atherosclerotic lesions. Unraveling the pathways responsible for lipid accumulation in macrophages has been viewed as an important aspect for understanding a piece of the atherosclerotic process.1 Investigations into the mechanisms through which macrophages accumulate cholesteryl esters from ...

Partial cDNAs encoding two lipoprotein receptors were isolated and sequenced from the ovary in the rainbow trout (rt), Oncorhynchus mykiss. One of the cDNAs (rt-LPR) contained the 5 domains characteristic of receptors belonging to the low-density ...

Effect of hypertension on low-density lipoprotein transport within a multi-layered arterial wall: modelling consistent with experiments [PDF]
The influence of hypertension on low-density lipoproteins intake into the arterial wall is an important factor for understanding mechanisms of atherosclerosis. It has been experimentally observed that the increased pressure leads to the higher level of the LDL inside the wall.

Adjusting Cell‐Surface Interactions Through a Covalent Immobilization of Biomolecules
This review presents an overview of current and emerging immobilization techniques coupled with an in‐depth investigation of the underlying mechanisms governing the activity and stability of covalently immobilized biomolecules. The aim of this study is to serve as a guide for the development of long‐lasting biomedical coatings with versatile biological

New horizons for lipoprotein receptors: communication by β-propellers
The lipoprotein receptor (LR) family constitutes a large group of structurally closely related receptors with broad ligand-binding specificity. Traditionally, ligand binding to LRs has been anticipated to involve merely the complement type repeat (CR ...
