The relationship between the concentration of insulin-like growth factor, leptin and lipid metabolism indices in the blood of dairy cows during different physiological periods

open access: yesНауковий вісник Львівського національного університету ветеринарної медицини та біотехнологій імені С.З. Ґжицького: Серія Ветеринарні науки
Despite the evidence of the fundamental influence of the endocrine system on metabolism in ruminants, there is little literature on hormonal status. There is insufficient data on tissue hormones, particularly insulin-like growth factor and leptin.

Presence of somatomedin receptors on primary human breast and colon carcinomas

open access: yesCancer Letters, 1987
Competitive binding techniques were used to study the interaction of insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) with a plasma membrane-enriched subcellular fraction purified from primary breast and colon carcinoma specimens obtained at surgery. The presence of specific binding sites for IGF-I was detected in all tumour specimens studied.

Somatomedin receptor of human placenta: solubilization, photolabeling, partial purification, and comparison with insulin receptor. [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 1981
Using a recently isolated human basic somatomedin (basic SM) similar to insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I), we studied both the photoaffinity-labeled and unlabeled basic-SM receptor solubilized from human placental cell membranes. Unlike the result with the insulin receptor, high yields of soluble basic-SM-binding activity are obtained with Triton X ...

Transfer of insulin-like growth factors I and II from plasma to lymph in young goats [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
The plasma clearance of intravenously injected '25I-labelled insulin-like growth factor I (IGFI, n = 13) and IGF-II (n = 12) and their transfer into lymph draining the foreleg of 3 5- to 8- week-old British Saanen goats was studied.

A high‐resolution data set of fatty acid‐binding protein structures. III. Unexpectedly high occurrence of wrong ligands

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section D, Volume 81, Issue 8, Page 451-464, August 2025.
Very high‐resolution fatty acid‐binding protein structures identified a substantial number of ligands that differ strongly from their expected structure. If different ligand chemistry is a potentially overlooked problem in other, lower resolution, crystal structures of protein–ligand complexes, it has repercussions for any study using such structures ...

2‐Octyl cyanoacrylate adjuvant use in calcaneal tendon repair: A comparative experimental study in rabbits

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Orthopaedics, Volume 12, Issue 2, April 2025.
Abstract Purpose The treatment of Achilles tendon (AT) rupture can be conservative or surgical; the latter is better indicated in high‐performance athletes. The pursuit of faster recovery and reductions in skin complications and re‐ruptures have improved the tendon repair technique and early assisted rehabilitation programs.

Probiotics and Spirulina platensis Improved Growth Performance of Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) by Upgrading Intestinal Morphology and Activating GH/IGF Axis

open access: yesAquaculture Research, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Probiotics and spirulina are used to improve health, growth, and immunity of fish. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of water additive probiotics and dietary Spirulina platensis on growth (weight gain (WG) and specific growth rate (SGR)), hematobiochemical parameters (hemoglobin (Hb) and blood glucose (Glu)), intestinal histology ...

Nutritional Benefits of Lycopene and Beta‐Carotene: A Comprehensive Overview

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 12, Issue 11, Page 8715-8741, November 2024.
This comprehensive review explores the sources, structures, physiochemical properties, absorption, metabolism, and functional advantages of lycopene and beta‐carotene, crucial carotenoid antioxidants for human health. We discuss their roles in disease prevention, including cardiovascular disease, cancer, and metabolic disorders, as well as their ...

Nanoparticles-cell association predicted by protein corona fingerprints [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In a physiological environment (e.g., blood and interstitial fluids) nanoparticles (NPs) will bind proteins shaping a "protein corona" layer. The long-lived protein layer tightly bound to the NP surface is referred to as the hard corona (HC) and encodes ...

Chondroitin sulfate in invertebrate development

open access: yesProteoglycan Research, Volume 2, Issue 4, October-December 2024.
Abstract Chondroitin sulfate (CS) is one of the most evolutionarily conserved glycosaminoglycans (GAGs). Although CS's function in skeletal development is well established in vertebrates, CS exists in more primitive animal species with no cartilage or bone, such as C.
