The ovarian hormones oestradiol and progesterone exert their actions on target cells predominantly through the binding and activation of the oestrogen receptor (ER) and progesterone receptor (PR), respectively. These receptors are members of the steroid/thyroid hormone superfamily of ligand-dependent transcription factors and bind to the control ...

Non-Steroidal Steroid Receptor Modulators
Current Medicinal Chemistry, 2005The last ten years much attention has been focused on the finding of non-steroidal ligands for steroidal nuclear receptors for reasons such as diminishing cross-reactivity to eliminate side effect profiles, changing physicochemical properties which might cause different tissue distribution profiles and altering binding modes which influence the binding

Publisher Summary This chapter discusses different aspects of steroid hormone receptors. Steroid hormones show different kinds of activities when examined at the physiological level. Differences may be also classified in terms of gross biological responses.

Estradiol and progesterone receptor proteins (ER, PgR) have been demonstrated in neoplastic and non-neoplastic human thyroid. The aim of this study was to determine the sexual steroid receptor content of pathological non-malignant thyroid (solitary adenoma, simple nontoxic goiter), and the adjacent normal tissue of the thyroid.

Neural steroid hormone receptors
Psychoneuroendocrinology, 1977Abstract (1) Cell nuclear and cytoplasmic receptors for estrogens, androgens, and glucocorticoids have been identified in brains and pituitary glands of vertebrates. With respect to topography, estradiol (E 2 ) receptors are localized primarily in the hypophysiotrophic area and amygdala; 5-α-dihydrotestosterone (DHT) receptors are found in ...

Human kidney steroid receptors
Journal of Steroid Biochemistry, 1976Abstract Saturation analyses, binding kinetics and agar gel electrophoresis performed on normal human kidney tissue revealed the presence of a specific progesterone receptor in all the specimens studied and in one, a specific estradiol receptor was observed, Progesterone binding had a rapid association and a slow dissociation reaction.
