Volume kinetics of lactated Ringer's solution in adult horses

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Fluid therapy in horses is primarily empirical. Evidence‐based quantification of the disposition of intravenous (IV) crystalloids used in clinical practice could enhance the effectiveness of fluid therapy. Objectives To determine the pharmacokinetics (i.e., volume kinetics: VK) and associated haemodynamic effects of IV lactated ...

Exploring the roles of conserved context‐dependent cis‐regulatory elements (cdCREs) in multicellularity, human health and disease

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Conserved context‐dependent cis‐regulatory elements act as a major reservoir of disease‐associated polymorphisms in the human genome and are also affected by epigenetic change. This ‘state‐of‐the‐art’ review explores the latest developments in studying these enigmatic elements and how the effects of disease‐associated polymorphisms and environmentally ...

Alcohol consumption, alcohol‐metabolizing enzyme genotypes, and glycemic control in type 2 diabetes: Sex‐specific findings from the Fukuoka Diabetes Registry

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, EarlyView.
In East Asian individuals with type 2 diabetes, increases in alcohol consumption were inversely associated with HbA1c levels in men, whereas the amount of alcohol consumption was associated with HbA1c levels in a J‐shaped manner in women. The alcohol–HbA1c associations were similarly observed, regardless of genetic susceptibility to alcohol metabolism.

Th2 mRNA gene expression analysis separates Prurigo nodularis into two immune signature groups

open access: yesJournal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, EarlyView.
Protein expression, histology and RNA analyses were performed from patients with prurigo nodularis (PN). All patients had typical PN characteristics. Lymphocytes/monocytes demonstrated more frequent positive staining signals in lesional versus non‐lesional samples for IL‐31, IL‐31RA, OSM and OSMRb.

Elevated central venous pressure: A consequence of exercise training-induced hypervolemia [PDF]

open access: yes
Resting plasma volumes, and arterial and central venous pressures (CVP) were measured in 16 men before and after exercise training to determine if training-induced hypervolemia could be explained by a change in total vascular capacitance.

Anorectic and anxiogenic actions of cocaine‐ and amphetamine‐regulated transcript in the lateral septum

open access: yesJournal of Neuroendocrinology, EarlyView.
Abstract Cocaine‐ and amphetamine‐regulated transcript (CART) is produced in several brain regions including the hypothalamus where it is made in cells that also produce melanin‐concentrating hormone (MCH). CART‐expressing MCH cells densely innervate the lateral septum (LS), which integrates food‐ and mood‐related behaviours.
