Optimized expression of the Starmerella bombicola lactone esterase in Pichia pastoris through temperature adaptation, codon-optimization and co-expression with HAC1 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The Starmerella bombicola lactone esterase (SBLE) is a novel enzyme that, in vivo, catalyzes the intramolecular esterification (lactonization) of acidic sophorolipids in an aqueous environment.

The PI3Kδ inhibitor roginolisib (IOA‐244) preserves T‐cell function and activity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Identification of novel PI3K inhibitors with limited immune‐related adverse effects is highly sought after. We found that roginolisib and idelalisib inhibit chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) cells and Treg suppressive functions to similar extents, but roginolisib affects cytotoxic T‐cell function and promotion of pro‐inflammatory T helper subsets to a

Leveraging ANXA1 to enhance recombinant protein yields in CHO cells: A UPR-Mediated bioprocessing approach

open access: yesSynthetic and Systems Biotechnology
Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells undergo endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) during intensive recombinant protein production, triggering the unfolded protein response (UPR) to balance cell survival and protein output.

Cloning and expression of the Propionibacterium shermanii methylmalonyl-CoA epimerase gene in Escherichia coli : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Biochemistry at Massey University [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
Genomic DNA was isolated from Propionibacterium shermanii (52W). A 454 bp DNA fragment coding for the methylmalonyl-CoA epimerase (EC 5.1.99.1, subsequently referred to as epimerase) was amplified from genomic DNA by the polymerase chain reaction using ...

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

Cross-kingdom regulation of plant microRNAs: potential application in crop improvement and human disease therapeutics

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
Plant microRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNA molecules that usually negatively regulate gene expression at the post-transcriptional level. Recent data reveal that plant miRNAs are not limited to individual plants but can transfer across different ...

Horseradish and soybean peroxidases: comparable tools for alternative niches? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Horseradish and soybean peroxidases (HRP and SBP, respectively) are useful biotechnological tools. HRP is often termed the classical plant heme peroxidase and although it has been studied for decades, our understanding has deepened since its cloning and ...

HSV-1 Protein Expression Using Recombinant Baculoviruses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The baculovirus expression system is an invaluable method for the expression of Herpes Simplex Virus 1 (HSV-1) proteins. The use of insect cells provides a eukaryotic system for the robust expression of heterologous proteins under control of the baculovirus polyhedrin gene promoter that naturally drives the high expression of the polyhedrin protein ...

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Cloning and Expression of Leptospira LipL32 Antigen as a Candidate for Rapid Diagnosis [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Fasa University of Medical Sciences, 2013
Background and Objective: Leptospirosis as an important emerging infectious zoonotic disease caused by spirochetes of the genus Leptospira. Given the low sensitivity and long duration of its culture, the diagnosis of leptospirosis is mainly based on ...
