Recombinant vaccinia virus vaccines

Trends in Biotechnology, 1988
Vaccinia viruses have been genetically engineered to express foreign antigens. Immunization with these chimeric viruses protects experimental animals against challenge with the relevant infectious agent. These results, together with the successful history of vaccinia virus as an immunizing agent against smallpox, provide the impetus for employing live ...

Genetic recombination with avian tumor virus

Virology, 1972
A recombinant that has the transforming activity of a Rous sarcoma virus (helper-independent) and the subgroup specificity of an avian leukosis virus has been isolated from cells infected with these two types of virus. The temperature sensitivity of a sarcoma virus mutant was unaffected following alteration of the host range by recombination.

Recombinant Virus Bank for Gene Delivery

Science, 2005
Viral vectors have been developed as therapeutic agents for the introduction of exogenous genes into living cells ([1][1]), and clinical trials of gene therapy and the use of viral vectors in the laboratory have been reported with increasing frequency during the past decade ([2][2]–[4][3 ...

Live Vaccinia Virus Recombinants Expressing Herpes Simplex Virus Genes

Clinical Infectious Diseases, 1991
Vaccinia virus recombinants expressing antigens from herpes simplex virus (HSV) have been tested as potential live virus vaccines for prevention of HSV infection. We describe three vaccinia virus/HSV recombinants. The first expresses the HSV-1 glycoprotein D (vaccinia/gD), the second expresses the HSV-1 glycoprotein B (vaccinia/gB), and the third ...

Recombinant vaccinia virus vaccines

1989
Vaccinia virus made a major contribution to world medicine as the live vaccine used to eradicate smallpox. Although smallpox vaccination has been discontinued, in the future vaccinia virus might be reused as a live vaccine but against other medical or veterinary pathogens.

Generation of Recombinant Adeno-Associated Virus

2003
Adeno-associated virus (AAV) was discovered about 30 yr ago as a contaminant of adenovirus preparations. Since its discovery, researchers have described many unique characteristics of AAV biology that have made it attractive as a potential vector for gene therapy.
