Making Molecular Diagnostics Faster

open access: yesInternational Journal of Laboratory Hematology, Volume 48, Issue 2, Page 272-280, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Over the past 40 years, molecular diagnostic methods have evolved from multi‐step, time‐consuming protocols towards either rapid targeted tests or expansive, massively parallel testing. Aims Here we consider the speed limits of targeted molecular diagnostics, considering the three sequential required steps: nucleic acid preparation,

CRISPR‐Enhanced RAA‐SHERLOCK Assay for Point‐of‐Care Detection of Cyprinid Herpesvirus‐3: Development, Validation and Clinical Application

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, Volume 49, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Koi herpesvirus disease (KHVD), caused by Cyprinid herpesvirus‐3 (CyHV‐3), poses a significant threat to global aquaculture due to its high mortality rates and economic impact. Current diagnostic methods, such as PCR, are limited by equipment dependency and procedural complexity, hindering point‐of‐care (POC) applications.

Porphyromonas gingivalis–Derived Virulence Lipids Accelerate Osteoclastogenesis Independently of High Mobility Group Box Protein‐1 Canonical Signaling

open access: yesMolecular Oral Microbiology, Volume 41, Issue 2, Page 85-93, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Periodontal bacterial pathogen‐associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) and damage‐associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) accelerate inflammatory osteoclastogenesis, resulting in alveolar bone loss. The core PAMP and DAMP prototype molecules are periodontal bacterium Porphyromonas gingivalis–derived virulence lipids, for example, phosphoglycerol ...

ZNF384‐Driven Fibulin‐1 Exacerbates Vascular Stiffness via TGF‐β/Smad3‐Mediated Senescence and Fibrosis

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 40, Issue 6, 31 March 2026.
This article elucidates the regulatory molecular mechanisms of Fibulin‐1 (Fbln1) in vascular stiffness and explores potential therapeutic interventions. Zinc Finger Protein 384 (ZNF384) binds to the Fbln1 promoter, driving its expression. Fbln1 activates the TGF‐β/Smad3 axis, promoting vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) senescence and collagen ...

Ketone Body Supplementation Exerts Renoprotective Effects Against Adenine‐Induced Kidney Injury via OXCT1‐Mediated Ketolysis in Mice

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 40, Issue 6, 31 March 2026.
1,3‐Butanediol is a ketone body precursor that is directly converted into the ketone bodies, β‐hydroxybutyrate (BHB), in the liver. When renal ketolysis, regulated by 3‐oxoacid CoA‐transferase 1 (OXCT1), is preserved, BHB supplementation exerts renoprotective effects.
