Differential expression of cancer‐related genes supports prediction of poor response to first‐line treatments in T‐ALL pediatric patients with high minimal residual disease

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the present work, we have identified a transcriptional signature based on the differential expression of six genes (BCL2&MAST4, HSH2D&LAT2, METRN&PITPNM2) that would facilitate the early detection of T‐cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T‐ALL) patients prone to a poor treatment response and could be implemented at diagnosis, along with other risk ...

Evaluation of recurrent selection in Leaming and Midland maize populations

open access: yes, 1999
Rates of maize (Zea mays L.) yield improvement in the United States has been reduced during the 1990's. Double-cycle breeding in a few old inbred lines and limited germplasm evaluation and utilization are possible explanations. Only one heterotic pattern

Viability of the UENF popcorn improvement program based on divergence in S1 families

open access: yesCrop Breeding and Applied Biotechnology, 2005
With the objective of evaluating the viability of the program of recurrent selection with popcorn of the Universidade Estadual do Norte Fluminense Darcy Ribeiro carried out in Campos dos Goytacazes and Itaocara, state of Rio de Janeiro, 40 families that ...

E2A selectively regulates TGF‐β–induced apoptosis in KRAS‐mutant non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Ability to induce apoptosis by TGF‐β is frequently lost in advanced lung adenocarcinoma despite intact TGF‐β signaling. We identify E2A as a mutant KRAS–dependent mediator of resistance to TGF‐β–induced apoptosis. TGF‐β induces E2A via SMAD3 in mutant KRAS cells, and E2A silencing restores apoptosis and enhances radiation response in cell lines ...

Selection aiming at upright growth habit common bean with carioca type grains

open access: yesCrop Breeding and Applied Biotechnology, 2005
Aiming at common bean lines with a high grain yield, upright growth habit and carioca type grains, ten common bean lines were crossed in a diallel scheme. The resulting populations were evaluated as to their capacity of generating superior lines.

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

Estimation of genetic variance in reciprocal recurrent selection corn composites

open access: yes, 1970
This study was undertaken to evaluate the genetic variance and the genetic behavior of each of twelve corn composites developed in a reciprocal recurrent selection program.

Characterization and preliminary heterosis evaluation of novel wheat genetically divergent populations

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
Heterosis is an important approach to improving wheat yield and quality. Previously, five recurrent selection populations were established to broaden genetic diversity via a recurrent selection strategy using French wheat, Spelt wheat, spike-branched ...

KDM7A and KDM1A inhibition suppresses tumour promoting pathways in prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Treatment resistance is a major challenge for patients with advanced prostate cancer. This study examined an alternative approach to target the major prostate cancer‐promoting pathway by targeting epigenetic factors, whose levels are higher in tumours.
