Temporal and Spectral Optimization of Vegetation Indices for Estimating Grain Nitrogen Uptake and Late-Seasonal Nitrogen Traits in Wheat

open access: yesSensors, 2019
Grain nitrogen (N) uptake (GNup) in winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is influenced by multiple components at the plant organ level and by pre- and post-flowering N uptake (Nup). Although spectral proximal high-throughput sensing is promising for field

Re-defining the Empirical ZZ Ceti Instability Strip [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We use the new ZZ Ceti stars (hydrogen atmosphere white dwarf variables; DAVs) discovered within the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (Mukadam et al. 2004) to re-define the empirical ZZ Ceti instability strip.

Efficient Red-Edge Materials Photosensitized by Rhodamine 640

open access: yesThe Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2009
We report on tunable, highly efficient and photostable solid-state dye laser emitting around 640 nm based on Rhodamine 640 incorporated into homopolymers, linear and cross-linked copolymers, and silicon-modified organic matrices. The effect on the lasing properties of both dye concentration and environmental conditions was analyzed.

Assessing the Spectral Properties of Sunlit and Shaded Components in Rice Canopies with Near-Ground Imaging Spectroscopy Data

open access: yesSensors, 2017
Monitoring the components of crop canopies with remote sensing can help us understand the within-canopy variation in spectral properties and resolve the sources of uncertainties in the spectroscopic estimation of crop foliar chemistry.

Understanding the temporal dimension of the red-edge spectral region for forest decline detection using high-resolution hyperspectral and Sentinel-2a imagery.

open access: yesISPRS J Photogramm Remote Sens, 2018
The operational monitoring of forest decline requires the development of remote sensing methods that are sensitive to the spatiotemporal variations of pigment degradation and canopy defoliation.

Partitioning edge-coloured complete graphs into monochromatic cycles and paths

open access: yes, 2012
A conjecture of Erd\H{o}s, Gy\'arf\'as, and Pyber says that in any edge-colouring of a complete graph with r colours, it is possible to cover all the vertices with r vertex-disjoint monochromatic cycles. So far, this conjecture has been proven only for r

Geometric Spanning Cycles in Bichromatic Point Sets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Given a set of points in the plane each colored either red or blue, we find non-self-intersecting geometric spanning cycles of the red points and of the blue points such that each edge of the red spanning cycle is crossed at most three times by the blue ...

In Search of the Edge: A Bayesian Exploration of the Detectability of Red Edges in Exoplanet Reflection Spectra

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
Abstract Reflection spectroscopy holds great promise for characterizing the atmospheres and surfaces of potentially habitable terrestrial exoplanets. The surface of the modern Earth exhibits a sharp albedo change near 750 nm caused by vegetation—the red edge—which would leave a strong spectral signature if present on an exoplanet ...

Potato Late Blight Detection at the Leaf and Canopy Levels Based in the Red and Red-Edge Spectral Regions

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2020
Potato late blight, caused by Phytophthora infestans, is a major disease worldwide that has a significant economic impact on potato crops, and remote sensing might help to detect the disease in early stages.

MAGIICAT V. Orientation of Outflows and Accretion Determine the Kinematics and Column Densities of the Circumgalactic Medium

open access: yes, 2015
We investigate the dependence of gas kinematics and column densities in the MgII-absorbing circumgalactic medium on galaxy color, azimuthal angle, and inclination to trace baryon cycle processes.
