Catalytic oxidant scavenging by selenium-containing compounds: Reduction of selenoxides and N-chloramines by thiols and redox enzymes

open access: yesRedox Biology, 2017
Myeloperoxidase produces strong oxidants during the immune response to destroy invading pathogens. However, these oxidants can also cause tissue damage, which contributes to the development of numerous inflammatory diseases. Selenium containing compounds,

Disruption of Interleukin-1β Autocrine Signaling Rescues Complex I Activity and Improves ROS Levels in Immortalized Epithelial Cells with Impaired Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane Conductance Regulator (CFTR) Function [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) have elevated concentration of cytokines in sputum and a general inflammatory condition. In addition, CF cells in culture produce diverse cytokines in excess, including IL-1B. We have previously shown that IL-1B, at low

Mitochondria and Neuromast Tagging With Fluorescent Gallium‐Triapine Analogues: In Cellulo MP FLIM and Zebrafish Live Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Fluorescent BODIPY‐conjugated thiosemicarbazone ligands and their Ga(III), In(III), and Fe(III) complexes, inspired by Triapine, are developed as theranostic agents. Multiphoton FLIM and confocal microscopy in cancer cells and zebrafish reveal real‐time uptake, mitochondrial localisation, and whilst spectroscopic assays indicated preserved complex ...

Localization of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl CoA reductase and 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl CoA synthase in the rat liver and intestine is affected by cholestyramine and mevinolin

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1988
In the normal fed rat, both 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl CoA (HMG-CoA) synthase and HMG-CoA reductase are found in high concentrations in hepatocytes that are localized periportally.

The Maize ZmbHLH118 Transcription Factor Regulates Vacuolar Nitrate Loading by the NO3− Transporter ZmCLCa

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In maize, the bHLH transcription factor ZmbHLH118 directly binds to the promoter of ZmCLCa and inhibits its expression. Tonoplast‐localized ZmCLCa mediates NO3− influx into the vacuole to regulate intracellular NO3− homeostasis, modulating nitrate uptake and metabolism, plant growth, and grain yield.

Role of mevalonate in regulation of cholesterol synthesis and 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase in cultured cells and their cytoplasts.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1985
H4-II-E-C3 hepatoma cells in culture respond to lipid-depleted media and to mevinolin with increased sterol synthesis from [14C]acetate and rise of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase levels.

Bilirubin as a Modulator of WNK1 Protein Signaling: Implications for Neuroinflammatory Diseases

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Previously regarded merely as a potentially harmful waste product of heme catabolism, bilirubin has now emerged as a pleiotropic molecule with potent antioxidant, anti‐inflammatory, and hormone‐like properties. Recent findings have revealed protective effects against cardiovascular, metabolic, autoimmune, and neoplastic diseases, as well as ...

Development of a noncompetitive, solid phase, bridged biotin-avidin enzyme immunoassay for measurement of human leukocyte microsomal HMG-CoA reductase protein concentration.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1987
Methods were developed for determination of human mononuclear leukocyte HMG-CoA reductase protein concentration by a noncompetitive, solid phase, bridged biotin-avidin enzyme immunoassay procedure.

T Cell Exhaustion in Cancer Immunotherapy: Heterogeneity, Mechanisms, and Therapeutic Opportunities

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
T cell exhaustion limits immunotherapy efficacy. This article delineates its progression from stem‐like to terminally exhausted states, governed by persistent antigen, transcription factors, epigenetics, and metabolism. It maps the exhaustion landscape in the TME and proposes integrated reversal strategies, providing a translational roadmap to overcome

Regulation of gene expression and synthesis and degradation of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase by micellar cholesterolin CaCo-2 cells.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1991
To investigate whether, and by what mechanisms, luminal (dietary) cholesterol regulates cholesterol synthesis in human intestinal cells, HMG-CoA reductase activity, gene expression, synthesis, and degradation were investigated in CaCo-2 cells exposed to ...
