Zero-Valent Metal Emulsion for Reductive Dehalogenation of DNAPLs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
A zero-valent metal emulsion is used to dehalogenate solvents, such as pooled dense non-aqueous phase liquids (DNAPLs), including trichloroethylene (TCE).

Sol-Gel Heterogeneization of an Ir(III) Complex for Sustainable Visible-Light Redox Photocatalysis

open access: yesMolecules
Photocatalysis is a key strategy for the development of sustainable solar-driven chemical processes. In this work, we report the synthesis and characterization of a novel organometallo–ionosilica material derived from the self-condensation of an ...

A Coupled Adsorption–Biodegradation (CAB) Process Employing a Polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB)–Biochar Mini Pilot-Scale Reactor for Trichloroethylene-Contaminated Groundwater Remediation

open access: yesBioengineering
Actions for improving water quality are critical and include the remediation of polluted groundwater. The effectiveness of the remediation strategy to remove contamination by chlorinated solvents may be increased by combining physicochemical treatments ...

Mechanisms of bacterially catalyzed reductive dehalogenation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
Nine bacteria were tested for the ability to dehalogenate tetrachloromethane (CT), tetrachloroethene (PCE), and 1, 1, 1-trichloroethane (TCA) under anaerobic conditions. Three bacteria were able to reductively dehalogenate CT. Dehalogenation ability was not readily linked to a common metabolism or changes in culture redox potential.

Reductive Transformations of Anthropogenic Chemicals in Natural and Technical Systems

open access: yesCHIMIA, 1997
Reductive transformation reactions of chemical pollutants (e.g., polyhalogenated hydrocarbons, aromatic azo and nitro compounds, chromium(VI) species) in the environment are important both from an ecotoxicological and from an environmental ...

Behavior of chemical contaminants under controlled Redox conditions in an artificial sequential soil column system and in batch cultures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
A leachate pollution plume was simulated in a sequential soil columnsystem (SSCS), defined by a longitudinal redox cascade from methanogenic,sulfate-, nitrate-reducing to aerobic conditions.

Reductive dehalogenation by anaerobic bacteria

open access: yes
The understanding of the fate of synthetic halogenated hydrocarbons became a matter of major interest over the last two decades. Halogenated compounds may threaten ecosystems due to their biocide properties. The degradability of halocompounds determines whether they will accumulate in a certain environment or whether they will be transformed to ...

Modulating Iron Crystals with Lattice Chalcophile‐Siderophile Elements for Selective Dechlorinations Over Hydrogen Evolution

open access: yesAdvanced Science
Selective dechlorination of organic chlorides over hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) remains a challenge because of their coincidence. Nanoscale zerovalent iron (nFe0) draws a promising picture of in situ groundwater dechlorination, but its ...
