The Prior Can Often Only Be Understood in the Context of the Likelihood
A key sticking point of Bayesian analysis is the choice of prior distribution, and there is a vast literature on potential defaults including uniform priors, Jeffreys’ priors, reference priors, maximum entropy priors, and weakly informative priors. These

On the implementation of local probability matching priors for interest parameters [PDF]
Probability matching priors are priors for which the posterior probabilities of certain specified sets are exactly or approximately equal to their coverage probabilities.

On Default Priors for Robust Bayesian Estimation with Divergences
This paper presents objective priors for robust Bayesian estimation against outliers based on divergences. The minimum γ-divergence estimator is well-known to work well in estimation against heavy contamination. The robust Bayesian methods by using quasi-

Inferring taxonomic placement from DNA barcoding aiding in discovery of new taxa
Predicting the taxonomic affiliation of DNA sequences collected from biological samples is a fundamental step in biodiversity assessment. This task is performed by leveraging existing databases containing reference DNA sequences endowed with a taxonomic ...

Multi-Reference Shape Priors for Active Contours [PDF]
In this paper, we present a new way of constraining the evolution of an active contour with respect to a set of fixed reference shapes. This approach is based on a description of shapes by the Legendre moments computed from their characteristic function. This provides a region-based representation that can handle arbitrary shape topologies.

Mixtures of g-priors for Bayesian model averaging with economic applications [PDF]
We examine the issue of variable selection in linear regression modeling, where we have a potentially large amount of possible covariates and economic theory offers insufficient guidance on how to select the ap- propriate subset.

Objective Bayesian hypothesis testing and estimation for the intraclass model
The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) plays an important role in various fields of study as a coefficient of reliability. In this paper, we consider objective Bayesian analysis for the ICC in the context of normal linear regression model. We first

The Wiener process as a degradation model plays an important role in the degradation analysis. In this paper, we propose an objective Bayesian analysis for an acceleration degradation Wiener model which is subjected to measurement errors.

Reference priors for high energy physics [PDF]
Bayesian inferences in high energy physics often use uniform prior distributions for parameters about which little or no information is available before data are collected. The resulting posterior distributions are therefore sensitive to the choice of parametrization for the problem and may even be improper if this choice is not carefully considered ...
