Gene Regulation and Expression
1992A gene is a segment of DNA consisting of codons specifying the amino acids for a protein and of control sequences which regulate gene expression. When a cell divides, the entire human genome, that is, all the DNA stored within the nucleus, must be copied. In Figure 2.1 the replication of DNA is demonstrated.

Expression and regulation of the SOST gene
Hereditas (Beijing), 2013Sclerostin(SOST), mainly expressed in osteocytes, is a negative regulator of bone formation. Hormones PTH and E2 inhibit the expression of the SOST gene. Transcription factors Osterix, Runx2, and Mef2c promote the SOST expression, while Sirt1 negatively regulates the SOST expression.

Regulation of Cytokine Gene Expression
Annual Review of Immunology, 1988Following the isolation and characterization of many cytokine genes, we began to understand the mechanisms regulating cytokine gene expression. Needless to say, understanding the mechanisms by which induction of gene expression occurs in a transient, cell type-specific manner in response to extracellular inducers is a central issue in eukaryotic ...

Androgen regulation of gene expression
The Prostate, 1996Androgen receptors are important transcription factors regulating the expression of a number of genes in androgen-responsive cells and may play a role in prostate cancer. This article describes transcriptional suppressors and other transcription factors which may play important roles in modulating the expression of androgen receptors.

Regulation Of Neuropeptide Gene Expression
Annual Review of Neuroscience, 1990Understanding of the mechanisms of neuropeptide gene regulation has increased dramatically in the past 5 years. In large part, this increased understanding has resulted from advances in the technology of introducing reporter genes into intact cells in culture.

Regulated Gene Expression in Gene Therapy
Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2001Abstract: The original model of gene therapy, that of efficient delivery, durable transfer, and stable expression of transgenes to correct a gene defect underlying an inherited disease, is limited in light of improved understanding of the processes involved.

Regulation of chondrocyte gene expression
Frontiers in Bioscience, 1999Extracellular influences known to affect the regulation of chondrocyte biosynthetic and catabolic activity have been shown to include soluble factors, extracellular matrix and mechanical stress. A balance of these numerous extracellular influences is required for normal function of articular cartilage. It is likely that OA is the result of an imbalance

Regulating gene expression in gene therapy
Trends in Biotechnology, 1993Ensuring that expression of introduced genes is both safe and effective necessitates directing expression to the appropriate tissue, at levels which produce a therapeutic effect. Extensive research is under way to elucidate the mechanisms and genetic elements involved in regulating expression. With the need to correlate expression levels and phenotypic

Regulation of gene expression by hypoxia
Biochemical Journal, 2008Hypoxia induces profound changes in the cellular gene expression profile. The discovery of a major transcription factor family activated by hypoxia, HIF (hypoxia-inducible factor), and the factors that contribute to HIF regulation have greatly enhanced our knowledge of the molecular aspects of the hypoxic response.

Androgen-Regulated Gene Expression
Annual Review of Physiology, 1989While a great deal of knowledge on the mechanisms of steroid hormone regulated gene expression now exists, specific information relating to androgens is lacking. A number of experimental systems have been developed and show promise as models for molecular studies of androgen regulation.
