Highly Mutable Linker Regions Regulate HIV-1 Rev Function and Stability. [PDF]
HIV-1 Rev is an essential viral regulatory protein that facilitates the nuclear export of intron-containing viral mRNAs. It is organized into structured, functionally well-characterized motifs joined by less understood linker regions.

HIV-1 gene expression: lessons from provirus and non-integrated DNA
Replication of HIV-1 involves a series of obligatory steps such as reverse transcription of the viral RNA genome into double-stranded DNA, and subsequent integration of the DNA into the human chromatin.

Beyond self-eating: The control of nonautophagic functions and signaling pathways by autophagy-related proteins. [PDF]
The identification of conserved autophagy-related proteins (ATGs) that mediate bulk degradation of cytosolic material laid the foundation for breakthroughs linking autophagy to a litany of physiological processes and disease conditions.

The Long Noncoding RNA HEAL Regulates HIV-1 Replication through Epigenetic Regulation of the HIV-1 Promoter. [PDF]
A major challenge in finding a cure for HIV-1/AIDS is the difficulty in identifying and eradicating persistent reservoirs of replication-competent provirus.

Synthetic Tumor-Specific Promoters for Transcriptional Regulation of Viral Replication
Here we describe a collection of methods that have been adapted to isolate and modify tumor-specific promoters (TSPs ) to drive viral replication for cancer therapy and other uses. We will describe as examples the secreted protein acidic and rich in cysteine (SPARC ) and the protease-activated receptor-1 (PAR-1) promoter.

Human cytomegalovirus miR‐US33‐5p inhibits viral DNA synthesis and viral replication by down‐regulating expression of the host Syntaxin3 [PDF]
During infection with human cytomegalovirus (HCMV), overexpression of hcmv‐miR‐US33 can inhibit the lytic viral replication and down‐regulate US29 mRNA. However, it remains unknown whether inhibition of viral replication by miR‐US33 is mediated by down‐regulation of expression of US29 or another host gene.

Bromodomain protein Brd4 plays a key role in Merkel cell polyomavirus DNA replication.
Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCV or MCPyV) is the first human polyomavirus to be definitively linked to cancer. The mechanisms of MCV-induced oncogenesis and much of MCV biology are largely unexplored.
