Video-rate computational heterodyne holography

open access: yes, 2014
We present a versatile computational image rendering software of optically-acquired holograms. The reported software can process 4 Megapixel 8-bit raw frames from a sensor array acquired at a sustained rate of 80 Hz.

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

The development of local solar irradiance for outdoor computer graphics rendering [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Atmospheric effects are approximated by solving the light transfer equation, LTE, of a given viewing path. The resulting accumulated spectral energy (its visible band) arriving at the observer’s eyes, defines the colour of the object currently on the ...

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Surface Curvature Effects on Reflectance from Translucent Materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Most of the physically based techniques for rendering translucent objects use the diffusion theory of light scattering in turbid media. The widely used dipole diffusion model (Jensen et al.

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Learning neural implicit surfaces with local probability standard variance

open access: yesIET Image Processing
Reconstructing geometric shapes from sparse multiview has always been a challenging task. With the development of neural implicit surfaces, geometry‐based volume rendering surface reconstruction methods have been proven to be able to reconstruct high ...

Distributing Graphic Rendering using Grid Computing with Load Balancing

open access: yesInternational Journal of Computer Applications, 2012
Graphic rendering is expensive in terms of computation. We investigate distributing it by applying the powerful computing technique called grid computing, and showing how this technology has a great effectiveness and high performance. The paper shows how to develop a java drawing framework for drawing in the distributed environment by dividing the work

A survey of computer representations of trees for realistic and efficient rendering [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This paper gives an overview of computer graphics representations of trees commonly used for the rendering of complex scene of vegetation. Looking for the right compromise between realism and efficiency has lead researchers to consider various types of ...

Painterly rendering techniques: A state-of-the-art review of current approaches [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this publication we will look at the different methods presented over the past few decades which attempt to recreate digital paintings. While previous surveys concentrate on the broader subject of non-photorealistic rendering, the focus of this paper ...
