Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease Patients Requiring Nephrectomy: Characteristics and Surgical Considerations

open access: yesANZ Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Nephrectomies are major surgeries often required in ADPKD for symptom control, removal of septic/malignant foci, and to create space for renal transplantation. Whether ADPKD patients should proceed with nephrectomy/ies should be guided by patient characteristics, technical considerations and anticipated risks and benefits. Methods A

The flat glucose response curve during oral glucose tolerance tests in Chinese pregnant women and its association with adverse outcomes

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, EarlyView.
A flat OGTT curve during pregnancy is associated with lower birth weight, and decreased risks of large for gestational age infants, macrosomia, gestational hypertension, and preeclampsia. Moreover, these risks varied based on maternal age and preconception BMI.

Targeting acetylated high mobility group box 1 protein (HMGB1) and toll‐like receptor (TLR4) interaction to alleviate hypertension and neuroinflammation in fructose‐fed rats

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and Purpose Our previous study reported that fructose intake increased systemic blood pressure and reduced nitric oxide (NO) in the nucleus tractus solitarius (NTS) due to oxidative stress and neuroinflammation. However, it remains unclear how reactive oxygen species (ROS) reduce NO and how this process impacts neuroinflammation in ...

Stabilisation of PRCP by deubiquitinase‐targeting chimera (DUBTAC) to replenish autophagy for ameliorating pathological cardiac hypertrophy

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Background and Purpose Autophagy is essential for cellular homeostasis, and its impairment contributes to cardiac hypertrophy. Modulating autophagy has shown potential in treating pathological hypertrophy. Prolylcarboxypeptidase (PRCP), a lysosomal enzyme that hydrolyzes angiotensin II to Ang1‐7, has an unclear role in cardiac autophagy and hypertrophy.

The thoracic perivascular adipose tissue spontaneously induces vasoconstriction through activation of α1‐adrenoceptors

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Background and Purpose Although perivascular adipose tissue (PVAT) contains substances with contractile properties, its actions on the vascular tone are associated with the release of anticontractile substances. We hypothesize that procontractile PVAT products also exert direct effects on vascular tone. Experimental Approach Thoracic aortas from Wistar
