Germline genetic inactivations that prolong reproductive lifespan.

open access: yes, 2014
In the rrf-1(pk1417) mutant, RNAi predominantly operates in the germline. Ten of the identified genes increase reproductive lifespan when inactivated in the rrf-1 mutants.

Optimizing photoactivation of PA‐mCherry for optical pooled CRISPR screens

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Photoactivatable PA‐mCherry finds widespread use to optically tag individual cells. However, confocal 405 nm UV laser‐scanning (normal scan) is much less efficient than widefield UV illumination, limiting the use of PA‐mCherry on confocal instruments. We remedy this limitation by reporting that rapid and repeated confocal scanning with a low‐intensity,

Supplementary material from "Artificial selection for increased reproductive effort accelerates actuarial senescence and reduces lifespan in a precocial bird"

open access: yes
Supplementary methods, supplementary figures and statistical output tables.Life history theory and evolutionary theories of ageing predict that trade-offs between reproduction and somatic maintenance shape the evolution of ageing and lifespan.

Exploring the influence of lactoferrin on wound healing and related signaling pathways: a systematic review

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Lactoferrin promotes wound healing by activating MAPK, PI3K/Akt, and extracellular matrix pathways, enhancing fibroblast remodeling, proliferation, and re‐epithelialization. These mechanisms highlight its therapeutic potential in inflammation control, tissue repair, and remodeling.

The Cost of Mating: Influences of Life History Traits and Mating Strategies on Lifespan in Two Closely Related Yponomeuta Species

open access: yesInternational Journal of Zoology, 2011
Theory predicts that in monandrous butterfly species males should not invest in a long lifespan because receptive females quickly disappear from the mating population.

From patient advocacy to patient‐driven research: Building active partnerships beginning at the bench to reach the bedside

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Research is strongest when conducted alongside patients, not just about them. Patient research organizations help integrate patient perspectives into research priorities, study design, and scientific meetings, leading to meaningful patient outcomes and development of relevant therapies.

Assisted reproductive technology in the USA: is more regulation needed? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The regulation of assisted reproductive technologies is a contested area. Some jurisdictions, such as the UK and a number of Australian states, have comprehensive regulation of most aspects of assisted reproductive technologies; others, such as the USA ...

Cell surface CD11c as a neutrophil aging marker molecule

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cell surface CD11chi neutrophils were more aged and had better phagocytic function than CD11c−/lo neutrophils. Transcriptomic analysis of CD11chi neutrophils and CD11c−/lo neutrophils in pediatric population showed that the most difference was seen in infants.

Germline expression of Imp-L2 in Drosophila females enhances reproductive activity and longevity

open access: yesAnimal Cells and Systems
The Imaginal morphogenesis protein-Late 2 (Imp-L2) in Drosophila is recognized as a functional homolog of the insulin-like growth factor (IGF) binding protein family.
