Accurate Quality Elicitation in a Multi-Attribute Choice Setting [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
This paper studies how to accurately elicit quality for alternatives with multiple attributes. Two multiple price lists (MPLs) are considered: (i) m-MPL which asks subjects to compare an alternative to money, and (ii) p-MPL where subjects are endowed with money and asked whether they would like to buy an alternative or not.

Identification of novel small molecule inhibitors of ETS transcription factors

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
ETS transcription factors play an essential role in tumourigenesis and are indispensable for sprouting angiogenesis, a hallmark of cancer, which fuels tumour expansion and dissemination. Thus, targeting ETS transcription factor function could represent an effective, multifaceted strategy to block tumour growth. The evolutionarily conserved E‐Twenty‐Six

Biases in Stakeholder Elicitation as a Precursor to the Systems Architecting Process

open access: yesSystems, 2023
Many systems engineering projects begin with the involvement of stakeholders to aid in decision-making processes. As an application of systems engineering, systems architecture involves the documentation of stakeholder needs gathered via elicitation and ...

miRNA‐29 regulates epidermal and mesenchymal functions in skin repair

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
miRNA‐29 inhibits cell‐to‐cell and cell‐to‐matrix adhesion by silencing mRNA targets. Adhesion is controlled by complex interactions between many types of molecules coded by mRNAs. This is crucial for keeping together the layers of the skin and for regenerating the skin after wounding.

Quadratic Metric Elicitation for Fairness and Beyond [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Metric elicitation is a recent framework for eliciting classification performance metrics that best reflect implicit user preferences based on the task and context. However, available elicitation strategies have been limited to linear (or quasi-linear) functions of predictive rates, which can be practically restrictive for many applications including ...

A lightweight forum-based distributed requirement elicitation process for open source community [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Nowadays, lots of open source communities adopt forum to acquire scattered stakeholders' requirements. But the requirements collection process always suffers from the unformatted description and unfocused discussions. In this paper, we establish a framework ReqForum to define the metamodel of the requirement elicitation forum. Based on it, we propose a

Ion channel function of polycystin‐2/polycystin‐1 heteromer revealed by structure‐guided mutagenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mutations in polycystin‐1 (PC1) or polycystin‐2 (PC2) cause autosomal‐dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). We generated a novel gain‐of‐function PC2/PC1 heteromeric ion channel by mutating pore‐blocking residues. Moreover, we demonstrated that PC2 will preferentially assemble with PC1 to form heteromeric complexes when PC1 is co‐expressed ...

Improvement of Requirement Elicitation Process through Cognitive Psychology

open access: yesSukkur IBA Journal of Computing and Mathematical Sciences, 2017
Proper requirement elicitation is necessary for client satisfaction along with the overall project success, but requirement engineers face problems in understanding user requirements and the users of the required system fail to make requirement ...

Eliciting Human Preferences with Language Models [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Language models (LMs) can be directed to perform target tasks by using labeled examples or natural language prompts. But selecting examples or writing prompts for can be challenging--especially in tasks that involve unusual edge cases, demand precise articulation of nebulous preferences, or require an accurate mental model of LM behavior. We propose to
