Correlation Between ScVO2, PCO2 Gap (Artery-Vein PCO2 Gradient) and Respiratory Quotient with Cardiac Output in Septic Shock Patients

open access: yesJAI (Jurnal Anestesiologi Indonesia)
Background: Septic shock is a life-threatening condition characterized by cardiovascular dysfunction, which can cause multi-organ failure and high mortality rates. Central venous oxygen saturation (ScVO2), PCO2 Gap, and respiratory quotient are potential

Hypercapnia is not excluded by normoxia in neuromuscular disease patients: implications for oximetry

open access: yesERJ Open Research
Background Pulse oximetry is widely used in the assessment of chronic respiratory failure in neuromuscular disease (NMD) patients. Chronic respiratory failure is the major cause of morbidity and mortality, necessitating early diagnosis and intervention ...

The Adipose‐Sympathetic Nerve Crosstalk: FSTL1 as an Adipocyte‐Derived Neurotrophic Factor for WAT Browning

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
As a novel adipose‐derived neurotrophic factor, Follistatin‐like 1 is endocytosed by sympathetic neurons primarily via tropomyosin‐related kinase B. This process promotes sympathetic innervation in adipose tissue and norepinephrine release, leading to white adipose tissue browning, enhanced thermogenesis, and anti‐obesity effects in mice.

The role of body composition, cardiometabolic parameters, and resting substrate oxidation in protecting against metabolic syndrome in adolescents with obesity

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition
PurposeThe aetiology of metabolic syndrome (MetS) in young people involves a complex interplay between lifestyle, body composition, and cardiometabolic risk factors.

Dissociation of diabetes and obesity in mice lacking orphan nuclear receptor small heterodimer partner

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2011
Mixed background SHP−/− mice are resistant to diet-induced obesity due to increased energy expenditure caused by enhanced PGC-1α expression in brown adipocytes.

Heavy Metal Contamination: Impacts From Plants to the Food Chain and Eco‐Friendly Amelioration Strategies

open access: yesAgriFood: Journal of Agricultural Products for Food, EarlyView.
Heavy metal pollution reduces soil health and threatens food safety by entering plants; however, the use of nanoparticles, biofertilizers, and organic fertilizers such as biochar offers a promising strategy for improvement and sustainable agriculture. ABSTRACT Heavy metal (HM) pollution, resulting from human activities such as mining and the excessive ...

Fatigue‐Driven Adaptive Assistance for a Semi‐Active Upper‐Limb Occupational Exoskeleton

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Physical fatigue during a physical activity is estimated in real time to enable adaptive exoskeleton assistance. By continuously adjusting the level of support according to the user’s fatigue, this approach reduces physical demand and provides a pathway toward personalized exoskeleton assistance.

Respiratory quotient of the rat diaphragm

open access: yes, 1963
The respiratory quotient (R.Q.) of the rat diaphragm has been separately obtained for the three component regions of the diaphragm (dorsal 0.753, ventral 0.941, and lateral 1.143).
