Restriction Factors and Chikungunya Virus

2016
The increasing prevalence of chikungunya virus (CHIKV) in the United States and around the world, and the lack of antiviral treatments or vaccines highlight the potential threat of a global CHIKV pandemic. CHIKV is a mosquito-borne alphavirus that is currently causing outbreaks in many parts of the world, including the Americas, India, Africa, and ...

Redistricting the retroviral restriction factors

Nature Medicine, 2004
The cytoplasmic protein TRIM5α blocks the growth of HIV in rhesus monkey cells. Three studies now show that TRIM5α is an even more broadly active inhibitor. It impairs the growth of highly divergent retroviruses in human and other primate cells and fully accounts for many previously described antiretroviral activities.

Factors Restricting the Use of Coma Scales

1986
The Glasgow Coma Scale has been well established as the ideal scale for identifying specific levels of consciousness. It is widely used to provide a consistent entry criterion for series of head injuries under study, to create arbitrary thresholds for management decisions and as an important component of the data-set for comparative studies of patients

Restriction factors: a defense against retroviral infection

Trends in Microbiology, 2003
Susceptibility to retroviral infection is determined, in part, by host genes with antiviral activity. The Fv1 gene, which inhibits murine leukemia virus infection in mice, encodes one such resistance factor, and was long thought to be unique in that it restricts post-entry, pre-integration steps of retroviral replication.
