Dye-aided optical recognition of reticulocytes and detailed exploration with atomic force microscopy
Reticulocytes are immature red blood cells found in peripheral blood that serve as crucial indicators of bone-marrow function in relation to various pathological conditions.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to explore the differences of peripheral blood (PB) and bone marrow serum lipidomic profiles in severe aplastic anemia (SAA) patients and their significance in predicting earlier immunosuppressive therapy (IST) response. A cohort of 11 newly diagnosed SAA patients and 15 healthy controls were enrolled between June 2020 and ...

ABSTRACT Aim In this article, we present two cases of severe fetal hemolytic anemia based on a beta‐thalassaemia trait inherited from a single parent. Results These cases, presented at 20 and 28 weeks' gestation, necessitated intra‐uterine blood transfusions.

Pharmacologic Inhibition of Erythrocyte Ferroportin Expression Exacerbates Plasmodium Infection
Plasmodium parasites rely on host iron for survival and replication, making host iron availability a critical determinant of malaria pathogenesis. Central to iron homeostasis is the hepcidin–ferroportin regulatory axis, where hepcidin suppresses iron ...

ABSTRACT Prenatal exome sequencing (ES) can establish rare genetic diagnoses in a fetus but may also lead to occult genetic diagnosis in a biological parent. We present a case of dual fetal and maternal diagnosis by prenatal ES, in a fetus with unexplained anemia and in a pregnant patient with sickle cell disease (SCD) and recurrent unexplained hypoxia.

Diagnosis and Management of Prenatal Hereditary Pyropoikilocytosis
ABSTRACT Hereditary pyropoikilocytosis (HPP) is a severe hemolytic anemia caused by variants in SPTA1, SPTB, and EPB41. These weaken horizontal interactions in the erythrocyte cytoskeleton, causing membrane fragmentation and splenic sequestration. It will readily cause fetal anemia and often hydrops fetalis. Prenatal diagnosis requires first ruling out

A comparative pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic study of two novel Cuban PEGylated rHuEPO versus MIRCERA® and ior®EPOCIM [PDF]
Context: The recombinant human erythropoietin (rHuEPO) stimulates the erythropoiesis process. Because this glycoprotein has a short half-life, it needs to be administrated two to three times a week.

IFN-γ plays both pathological and protective roles during blood-stage malaria. One of its pathological roles is its contribution to anemia by suppressing erythropoiesis. Here, to evaluate the effects of IFN-γ-mediated alterations in erythropoiesis on the
