Analysis of the Recovery of Immune Status in the Patients With Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria After Treatment With C5 Complement Inhibitor

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, EarlyView.
We retrospectively evaluated the impact of C5 complement inhibition on immune cell profiles and recovery in 27 PNH patients; both CD4+ and CD8+ T cells exhibited partial recovery, while B cell counts increased but remained below normal levels. In contrast, Treg cells were significantly reduced in PNH patients and showed no notable change post‐treatment.

Lipid Interference Flagging and Haemoglobin Correction in Lipemic Samples With a Hematology Analyzer

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, EarlyView.
A flagging method was developed based on the changes of routine blood parameters and blood cell scattergram. It highlights the clinical value of the “Lipid Particles?” flag in effectively identifying lipid interference. This study supports the use of HGB‐O measured by ERP channel as a robust tool for improving diagnostic accuracy in lipid interference ...

Pharmacologic Inhibition of Erythrocyte Ferroportin Expression Exacerbates Plasmodium Infection

open access: yesMicroorganisms
Plasmodium parasites rely on host iron for survival and replication, making host iron availability a critical determinant of malaria pathogenesis. Central to iron homeostasis is the hepcidin–ferroportin regulatory axis, where hepcidin suppresses iron ...

Reticulocyte counts in the aged.

open access: yesNippon Ronen Igakkai Zasshi. Japanese Journal of Geriatrics, 1989
Reticulocytes were measured on an automated reticulocyte counter in five groups; healthy adults, non-elderly patient with low hematopoiesis, adults with anemia, healthy elderly persons and elderly patients with anemia. The reticulocyte percent, absolute reticulocyte count, and reticulocyte composition as classified by fluorescence intensity (highly ...

Reconceptualizing Aplastic Anemia—Seed, Worm, Soil

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, EarlyView.
Aplastic anemia (AA) encompasses a group of hematological syndromes often misdiagnosed, resulting in a decrease in the overall blood cell count and representing a form of bone marrow failure. We reinterpret AA based on the “seed, worm, and soil” doctrine.

In vitro kinetics of reticulocyte subtypes: maturation after red blood cell storage in additive solution-1 (AS-1)

open access: yesHematology, Transfusion and Cell Therapy, 2018
Background: Reticulocytes are immature red blood cells containing RNA remnants. Their population kinetics has been documented under various in vivo and in vitro conditions, including after storage of red blood cells in blood banks.

First Report of Co‐Inheritance of Hemoglobin British Columbia (HBB:c.304G>A) and β‐Thalassemia IVS‐I‐6 (HBB:c.92+6T>C): Clinical Characterization of an Iranian Case

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Hemoglobin British Columbia is a rare high‐oxygen‐affinity β‐globin variant caused by the HBB:c.304G>A substitution. Its detection is exceptionally uncommon, particularly in the Middle East, and may lead to diagnostic pitfalls when relying solely on hemoglobin separation techniques.

A comparative pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic study of two novel Cuban PEGylated rHuEPO versus MIRCERA® and ior®EPOCIM [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacy & Pharmacognosy Research, 2018
Context: The recombinant human erythropoietin (rHuEPO) stimulates the erythropoiesis process. Because this glycoprotein has a short half-life, it needs to be administrated two to three times a week.

A transient resistance to blood-stage malaria in interferon-γ-deficient mice through impaired production of host cells preferred by malaria parasites

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2015
IFN-γ plays both pathological and protective roles during blood-stage malaria. One of its pathological roles is its contribution to anemia by suppressing erythropoiesis. Here, to evaluate the effects of IFN-γ-mediated alterations in erythropoiesis on the

Resolving a Complex Neonatal Phenotype by Rapid Trio Whole‐Genome Sequencing: A De Novo 11q14.3–q22.3 Deletion and a Splicing‐Altering Synonymous ANK1 Variant

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, EarlyView.
Clinical utility of trio WGS and time metrics in a neonate with congenital anomalies and hemolytic anemia. ABSTRACT Background Neonates with complex and evolving phenotypes often lack sufficiently specific clinical features to guide targeted genetic testing.
