New developments in retinal drusen

Ophthalmic and Physiological Optics, 1998
SummaryRetinal drusen are an important manifestation of age‐related maculopathy, and increase with ageing. Recent studies have shown that gentle laser photocoagulation can lead to resolution of soft drusen and may lessen the high risk of development of choroidal neovascularisation in these cases. Laser induced regression of retinal drusen appears to be

Retinal Drusen and Colour Vision

1984
For drusen situated outside of retina, alteration of π1 and π3 mechanisms gives the evidence that a latent pathologic process is ready to destroy the macular area.

Classification of retinal pigment epithelial detachments associated with drusen

Graefe's Archive for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology, 1992
To understand the natural history of retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) detachments (PEDs) associated with drusen, we retrospectively reviewed 125 PEDs that had not undergone laser treatment over an average follow-up period of 28 months. We identified six types of RPE detachments: pseudo-vitelliform, confluent drusen, serous, vascular, and hemorrhagic ...

Drusen of the Optic Nerve Associated With Retinitis Pigmentosa

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1985
Globular excrescences of the optic nerve associated with retinitis pigmentosa have been interpreted as drusen or as astrocytic hamartomas. The histopathologic and ultrastructural findings of globular excrescences of the peripapillary region of the optic nerve associated with retinitis pigmentosa were described in a 22-year-old patient who died in a car

Bilateral Central Retinal Artery Occlusions, Disk Drusen, and Migraine

American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1989
A central retinal artery occlusion occurred in the left eye of a 25-year-old woman with migraine and bilateral intrapapillary drusen. An extensive investigation failed to establish the presence of any systemic disease or vasculopathy. Eight years later she had a central retinal artery occlusion in her right eye.

Retinal Sensitivity Over Drusen and Nondrusen Areas

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1988
Elderly patients with drusen and good visual acuity have a decrease in dark-adapted retinal sensitivity in the central retina. We used the fundus camera stimulator to determine whether this sensitivity loss is caused directly by the presence of drusen.

Retinal sensitivity measurement over drusen using scanning laser ophthalmoscope microperimetry

Graefe's Archive for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology, 1998
Retinal sensitivity over drusen was examined using a scanning laser ophthalmoscope to confirm a previous report of no change in sensitivity over drusen.Microperimetry was performed using a scanning laser ophthalmoscope in 23 eyes of 19 subjects. Subject age ranged from 42 to 86 years (mean 68.5 years).

Doyne Honeycomb Retinal Dystrophy (Malattia Leventinese, Autosomal Dominant Drusen)

2018
In these conditions, drusen are present in childhood, but patients are asymptomatic, with good vision, until their 40s or 50s. Drusen are seen at the macula, around the edge of the optic nerve and/or nasal to the disc, in a radiating pattern (in particular, temporal to macula, as in Figs. 18.1, 18.2, 18.3, 18.4 and 18.5).

Drusen Regression after Macula-involving Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment Repair

RETINAL Cases & Brief Reports
Purpose: To investigate the effect of macula-involving rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) repair on drusen regression. Methods: A retrospective review was performed of patients with drusen who underwent macula-involving RRD repair.

Optic disc drusen and retinal ganglion cell apoptosis

Neuro-Ophthalmology, 1998
A patient with optic disc drusen and life-long low systemic blood pressure suffered several successive neuro-ophthalmic manifestations over a 30-year period (probably bilateral juvenile disc and pr...
