The MacBrain Resource Center (MBRC) rhesus macaque embryonic brain histology datasets

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
We introduce the MacBrain Resource Center (MBRC) Collections of rhesus macaque embryonic brain tissue. Here, we illustrate histo‐ and immunohistology from our dynamically growing Collection 6, which currently contains >10,000 zoomable and downloadable images from n = 14 male and female embryos from early to late in gestation.

Top2b regulates morphological and migratory properties of retinal progenitor cells in vivo and upon transplantable matrix substrates [PDF]

open access: yesExploration of BioMat-X
Aim: This study evaluated the impact of retinal extracellular matrix (ECM) and key biomaterial substrates on the motility of transplantable retinal cells with genomic manipulation, using the therapeutic molecule, Topoisomerase II beta (Top2b), as a model.

Systemic, Lifestyle and Environmental Modifying Factors in the Pathogenesis of Periodontitis

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
A variety of impacting factors in the pathogenesis of periodontitis exist, including systemic, lifestyle, and environmental factors. This review highlights the manifold mechanistic aspects of the link between the pathogenesis of periodontitis, addressing these numerous factors to supplement the long‐standing knowledge of the progression of the disease.

Influence of microglia on retinal progenitor cell turnover and cell replacement [PDF]

open access: yesEye, 2008
Microglia within the retina are continually replaced from the bone marrow and are the resident myeloid-derived cells within the retina. Throughout life, microglial function is conditioned by the microenvironment affording immunomodulation to control inflammation as well as functioning to enable normal development and, during adulthood, maintain normal ...

Exploring adult hippocampal neurogenesis using optogenetics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In the 1980s, it was widely accepted that new neurons are continuously generated in the dentate gyrus of the mammalian hippocampus. Since its acceptance, researchers have employed various techniques and behavioral paradigms to study the proliferation ...
