Retinoic acid signaling pathways
Retinoic acid (RA), a metabolite of retinol (vitamin A), functions as a ligand for nuclear RA receptors (RARs) that regulate development of chordate animals. RA-RARs can activate or repress transcription of key developmental genes.

High expression of retinoic acid receptors and synthetic enzymes in the human hippocampus
Retinoic acid, the active form of the nutrient vitamin A, regulates several facets of neuronal plasticity in the hippocampus, including neurogenesis and synaptic strength, acting via specific retinoic acid receptors (RARs).

An ex vivo glomerular filtration barrier is engineered using electrospun, biomimetic membranes seeded with human glomerular cells. The model supports fenestrated endothelium and podocyte foot processes under flow, mimics size‐selective filtration, and enables disease modeling with hiPSC‐derived podocytes, offering a powerful platform for studying ...

Involvement of SIK3 in glucose and lipid homeostasis in mice. [PDF]
Salt-inducible kinase 3 (SIK3), an AMP-activated protein kinase-related kinase, is induced in the murine liver after the consumption of a diet rich in fat, sucrose, and cholesterol. To examine whether SIK3 can modulate glucose and lipid metabolism in the

Retinoic acid receptors in myeloid leukemia: characterization of receptors in retinoic acid-resistant K-562 cells [PDF]
Although mRNA for the retinoic acid receptor alpha (RAR-alpha) is expressed in many different myeloid leukemias, most of these leukemia cells exhibit little if any phenotypic response when exposed to retinoic acid (RA). To determine whether such RA resistance is related to altered RA receptor structure or function, we performed a detailed analysis of ...

A mechanically active OsteoChondral Unit (OCU)‐on‐Chip platform mimicking the OCU's functional anatomy and the strain gradient across the osteochondral interface is presented. Upon compartment‐specific hyperphysiological compression, the model replicates mechanisms observed in osteoarthritis (OA) progression, such as calcium crystal accumulation ...

Imiquimod‐loaded nanoparticles (PFSUV‐IMQ) are found to decrease liver metastasis and liver tumor burden when administered intravenously. Flow cytometry, RNA‐seq and various experiments show that the anti‐tumor response is immune‐mediated by activating dendritic cells resulting in increased CD8 T cell infiltration and activity.

Retinoic Acid Receptor-Related Orphan Receptors: Critical Roles in Tumorigenesis
Retinoic acid receptor-related orphan receptors (RORs) include RORα (NR1F1), RORβ (NR1F2), and RORγ (NR1F3). These receptors are reported to activate transcription through ligand-dependent interactions with co-regulators and are involved in the ...
