Role for the liver X receptor agonist 22‐ketositosterol in preventing disease progression in an Alzheimer's disease mouse model

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 182, Issue 16, Page 3744-3766, August 2025.
Background and Purpose Liver X receptors (LXRs) are promising therapeutic targets for alleviating Alzheimer's disease (AD) symptoms. We assessed the impact of the semi‐synthetic LXR agonist 22‐ketositosterol on disease progression in an AD mouse model.

Artemisinins in autoimmune diseases: effects and mechanisms in systemic lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 182, Issue 15, Page 3411-3427, August 2025.
Abstract Autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) result from immune self‐tolerance loss, causing tissue damage. Standard treatments targeting late‐stage inflammation often have serious side effects. Artemisinin, known for its antimalarial properties, shows potential immunomodulatory effects.

Associations of serum carotenoids with cardiovascular disease mortality among patients with metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease

open access: yesHepatology Research, Volume 55, Issue 8, Page 1111-1127, August 2025.
In metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease/metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatohepatitis patients aged <60 years, high serum β‐cryptoxanthin concentrations were inversely associated with CVD mortality. Abstract Aim High cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality occurred among metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease ...

Expression patterns of melanin‐related genes are linked to crypsis and conspicuousness in a pumpkin toadlet

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 34, Issue 15, August 2025.
Abstract Colour signals play pivotal roles in different communication systems, and the evolution of these characters has been associated with behavioural ecology, integumentary production processes and perceptual mechanisms of the species involved. Here, we present the first insight into the molecular and histological basis of skin colour polymorphism ...

Hydroxysteroid 17β‐dehydrogenase 13 (Hsd17b13) knockdown attenuates liver steatosis in high‐fat diet obese mice

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, Volume 110, Issue 8, Page 1071-1086, 1 August 2025.
Abstract Hydroxysteroid 17β‐dehydrogenase 13 (HSD17B13) loss‐of‐function gene variants are associated with a decreased risk of metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). Our RNA‐seq analysis of steatotic liver from obese mice ± fenretinide treatment identified major beneficial effects of fenretinide on expression of hepatic genes

RXRα modulates hepatic stellate cell activation and liver fibrosis by targeting CaMKKβ–AMPKα axis

open access: yesActa Pharmaceutica Sinica B
Hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) are the primary fibrogenic cells in the liver, and their activation plays a crucial role in the development and progression of hepatic fibrosis.

Induction of cytochrome P450 via upregulation of CAR and PXR: a potential mechanism for altered florfenicol metabolism by macranthoidin B in vivo

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology
IntroductionMacranthoidin B (MB) is a primary active component of Flos Lonicerae. In Chinese veterinary clinics, Flos Lonicerae is frequently used in combination with florfenicol to prevent and treat infections in livestock and poultry.
