The family of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) is the molecular target of synthetic antidiabetic and hypolipidemic drugs. The side effects of these drugs are limiting their use in patients with high lipid levels. Natural compounds, like Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) from fish oil, have beneficial effects in the treatment of metabolic ...

Cell culture experiments indicated that activation of the retinoic acid signaling system is involved in axonal regeneration. This hypothesis was tested with sciatic nerve injury in the rat. Since the effect of retinoic acid is mediated via retinoic acid receptors and retinoid X receptors, we investigated mRNA and protein expression of these receptors ...

We have studied the role of retinoid X receptor alpha (RXR alpha) in vitamin D receptor (VDR) responsive interactions using nuclear extracts from human osteoblast-like MG-63 osteosarcoma cells and its specific response element from human osteocalcin gene (OC-VDRE).

To investigate the effects of carnitine on cardiac function, collagen contents, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARalpha) and retinoid X receptor alpha (RXRct) expressions in a rat alcoholic cardiomyopathy modeL.Adult male Wistar rats were randomly divided into alcohol group (A) , alcohol/carnitine group (B) and control group.

The testicular gene expression of the retinoic acid receptors, RAR alpha, -beta, and -gamma, was studied in normal mice and in vitamin A-deficient mice after the administration of all-trans-retinoic acid (ATRA). All three types of RARs were expressed in normal and/or vitamin A-deficient testes.

Immunohistochemical detection of the retinoid X receptors alpha, beta, and gamma in human prostate.
Journal of andrology, 2003The aim of this study was to evaluate the presence and distribution of retinoid X receptors (RXRs) alpha, beta, and gamma in normal, hyperplastic (nodular, basal cell, and atrophic hyperplasia), and carcinomatous human prostates in order to elucidate the relationship among these receptors and the onset and development of prostatic adenocarcinoma ...
