Ubiquitinated or sumoylated retinoic acid receptor alpha determines its characteristic and interacting model with retinoid X receptor alpha in gastric and breast cancer cells [PDF]

open access: bronzeJournal of Molecular Endocrinology, 2004
Retinoic acid receptor alpha (RARalpha) plays an important role in mediating all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) signals. In this study, we found that ATRA up-regulated RARalpha mRNA and protein expression in gastric cancer BGC-823 cells. However, in breast cancer MCF-7 cells it down-regulated RARalpha protein expression with no effect on its RARalpha mRNA.

DNA binding specificity and function of retinoid X receptor alpha.

open access: hybridJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1994
Retinoid X receptors are members of the erbA superfamily of ligand-inducible transcription factors. Similar to several other members of this gene family, retinoid X receptors are known to bind to the hexameric DNA sequence AGGTCA. After binding to a direct repeat of this hexamer with a one-base pair spacer, retinoid X receptor homodimers are able to ...

Retinoid X Receptor as a Therapeutic Target to Treat Neurological Disorders Associated with α-Synucleinopathy [PDF]

open access: yesCells
This study investigated the therapeutic potential of the nuclear retinoid X receptor (RXR) in mitigating the progression of alpha-synucleinopathies (αSNPs), particularly in Parkinson’s disease (PD).

Retinoic acid receptors and retinoid X receptor-alpha down-regulate the transforming growth factor-beta 1 promoter by antagonizing AP-1 activity. [PDF]

open access: bronzeMolecular Endocrinology, 1993
Overexpression of the multifunctional growth factor transforming growth factor-beta 1 (TGF beta 1) has been connected to numerous diseases in human. TGF beta 1 expression is largely governed by three AP-1 binding sites located in two different promoters ...

Effect of retinoic acid treatment on the retinoic acid signaling pathway in a human siRNA-based aniridia limbal epithelial cell model, in vitro. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE
PurposeIn the present study, we evaluate gene and protein expression levels in an in vitro siRNA-mediated PAX6 knockdown limbal epithelial cell (LEC) model after RA treatment.

Characterization of the ligand binding domain of human retinoid X receptor alpha expressed in Escherichia coli

open access: hybridJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1994
In order to study the structural details of ligand protein interactions of the human retinoid X receptor alpha (hRXR alpha), the DEF and EF domains of the receptor were expressed as glutathione S-transferase (GST) fusion proteins in Escherichia coli.

Glucocorticoids increase retinoid-X receptor alpha (RXRalpha) expression and enhance thyroid hormone action in primary cultured rat hepatocytes [PDF]

open access: bronzeJournal of Molecular Endocrinology, 1999
We have previously demonstrated that dexamethasone (DEX) enhances the T3-dependent increase in type I 5'-deiodinase (5'DI) mRNA in primary cultured rat hepatocytes grown as spheroids.

FOXA1 reprogramming dictates retinoid X receptor response in ESR1 mutant breast cancer.

open access: yesMolecular Cancer Research, 2023
Estrogen receptor alpha (ER/ESR1) mutations occur in 30-40% of endocrine resistant ER-positive (ER+) breast cancer. Forkhead Box A1 (FOXA1) is a key pioneer factor mediating ER-chromatin interactions and endocrine response in ER+ breast cancer, but its ...
