An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

Faster Time Response by the Use of Wire Electrodes in Capacitive Salinity Gradient Energy Systems [PDF]
Capacitive energy extraction based on Donnan potential (CDP) and capacitive energy extraction based on double layer expansion (CDLE) are novel electroctrochemical processes to convert the potential free energy of mixing sea and river water into electric ...

Properly Conducted Fundoplication Reverses Histologic Evidence Of Esophagitis
Little is known about the fate of histologic changes of esophagitis following an antireflux procedure. In a widely quoted paper (Gastroenterology 1979; 76:1393), initial healing of esophagitis was reported, but it was noted that normal biopsies reversed to abnormal in a small number of patients who were followed for up to 69 months. The authors studied

Phosphoinositides and inositol phosphates as molecular glues
Inositol phosphates (IPs) and phosphoinositides (PIPs) regulate diverse eukaryotic processes. Beyond recruiting signaling proteins or acting as structural cofactors, recent studies suggest they mediate protein–protein interactions as natural molecular glues.

α‐Synuclein aggregation landscape from phase separation to neurotoxic intermediates
Alpha‐synuclein aggregation in Parkinson's disease involves a complex landscape of transient intermediates, including oligomers, fibrils and liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS). A view is emerging in which LLPS maturation into solid‐like condensates may contribute to the formation of neurotoxic species.

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Continuous-conduction-mode SEPIC converter with low reverse-recovery loss for power factor correction [PDF]
A continuous-conduction-mode SEPIC converter with low reverse-recovery loss is proposed for power factor correction. The proposed SEPIC converter can reduce the reverse-recovery loss of the diodes and improve the power efficiency.

The process of internalization of the Shiga toxin A subunit via formation of a complex with the Shiga toxin B subunit, which specifically binds to the Gb3 receptor. The peptide is designed to act as a carrier of drugs into cancer cells. Here, we explored the potential of peptides derived from the catalytic A subunit of Shiga toxin (STxA) to be drug ...

An improved SiC SWITCH‐MOS with superior forward performance
An improved 4H‐SiC SBD‐wall‐integrated trench metal‐oxide‐semiconductor (SWITCH‐MOS) with n‐bury and split‐gate is proposed. Under the premise of ensuring breakdown voltage (BV), the n‐bury layer can smooth the path to current conduction, which reduces ...
