Prevalence of Transmitted HIV Drug Resistance Among Newly Diagnosed Antiretroviral Therapy-Naive Pregnant Women in Lilongwe and Blantyre, Malawi [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In 2006, a survey of transmitted human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) drug resistance (TDR) was conducted in Lilongwe, Malawi. The survey followed the World Health Organization method to classify TDR to nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs ...

The Evolution of Drug Resistance Interpretation Algorithms: ANRS, REGA and Extension of Resistance Analysis to HIV-1 Group O and HIV-2 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Antiretroviral drug resistance is mostly linked to a complex interaction of several amino acids with variable importance or a single amino acid. To facilitate the interpretation of observed mutation patterns, hospital university centers have developed ...

Phylogeny and drug resistance of HIV PR gene among HIV patients receiving RT inhibitors in Iran

open access: yesAsian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine, 2016
Objective: To survey the level and patterns of reverse transcriptase-based drug resistance and subtype distribution among antiretroviral-treated HIV-infected patients receiving only reverse transcriptase inhibitors in Iran. Methods: A total of 25 samples

Indolylarylsulfones carrying a heterocyclic tail as very potent and broad spectrum HIV-1 non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors.

open access: yesJournal of Medicinal Chemistry, 2014
We synthesized new indolylarylsulfone (IAS) derivatives carrying a heterocyclic tail at the indole-2-carboxamide nitrogen as potential anti-HIV/AIDS agents. Several new IASs yielded EC50 values

InforMatrix Nucleoside/Nucleotide Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitors “Backbones” [PDF]

open access: yesExpert Opinion on Pharmacotherapy, 2007
InforMatrix is an interactive decision matrix technique. This paper describes the use of InforMatrix to determine an order of merit within the various nucleoside and nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitors. In the order of merit, six criteria (effectiveness, safety, tolerance, convenience, usability and costs) are weighted against each other.

BMP antagonist CHRDL2 enhances the cancer stem‐cell phenotype and increases chemotherapy resistance in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Overexpression of CHRDL2 in colon cancer cells makes them more stem‐like and resistant to chemo‐ and radiotherapy. CHRDL2‐high cells have upregulation of the WNT pathway, genes involved in the DNA damage response (DDR) pathway and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT). This leads to quicker repair of damaged DNA and more cell migration.

Higher Efficiency In Prediction Of TIBO Activity By Evolutionary Neural Network [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The treatment of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is a challenging medical problem. TIBO is a nonnucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor, which binds non-competitively to the hydrophobic pocket on the p66 subunit of RT enzyme.

HIV drug resistance prediction with weighted categorical kernel functions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Background: Antiretroviral drugs are a very effective therapy against HIV infection. However, the high mutation rate of HIV permits the emergence of variants that can be resistant to the drug treatment.

Increased risk of Q151M and K65R mutations in patients failing stavudine-containing first-line antiretroviral therapy in Cambodia.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
BackgroundMulti-nucleos(t)ide resistance (MNR) mutations including Q151M, K65R mutations, and insertion at codon 69 of HIV-1 reverse transcriptase coding region may confer resistance to all molecules of nucleos(t)ide reverse transcriptase inhibitors ...

Matrigel inhibits elongation and drives endoderm differentiation in aggregates of mouse embryonic stem cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Stem cell‐based embryo models (SCBEMs) are valuable to study early developmental milestones. Matrigel, a basement membrane matrix, is a critical substrate used in various SCBEM protocols, but its role in driving stem cell lineage commitment is not clearly defined.
