MR‐Guidance of Gene Therapy for Brain Diseases: Moving From Palliative Treatment to Cures

open access: yesJournal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Regulatory bodies in the U.S. and Europe recently approved a gene therapy for aromatic L‐amino acid decarboxylase (AADC) deficiency, a rare neurologic disorder where a genetic mutation prevents dopamine production in the brain. Affected children fail to develop normal motor and cognitive functions.

Unique Identification of Macaques for Population Monitoring and Control [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Despite loss of natural habitat due to development and urbanization, certain species like the Rhesus macaque have adapted well to the urban environment. With abundant food and no predators, macaque populations have increased substantially in urban areas, leading to frequent conflicts with humans. Overpopulated areas often witness macaques raiding crops,

Ad26/MVA Therapeutic Vaccination with TLR7 Stimulation in SIV-Infected Rhesus Monkeys

open access: yesNature, 2016
The development of immunologic interventions that can target the viral reservoir in HIV-1-infected individuals is a major goal of HIV-1 research. However, little evidence exists that the viral reservoir can be sufficiently targeted to improve virologic ...

Intercenter reliability and validity of the rhesus macaque GeneChip

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2007
Background The non-human primate (NHP) research community has been intensely interested in obtaining whole-genome expression arrays for their work. Recently, novel approaches were used to generate the DNA sequence information for a rhesus GeneChip.

Heart Rate and Heart Rate Variability of Rhesus Macaques (Macaca mulatta) Affected by Left Ventricular Hypertrophy

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science, 2019
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is frequently associated with sudden cardiac death, presumably due to the development of malignant arrhythmias.

Corticospinal Tract Development, Evolution, and Skilled Movements

open access: yesMovement Disorders, EarlyView.
Abstract The evolution of the corticospinal tract (CST) is closely linked to the development of skilled voluntary movements in mammals. The main evolutionary divergence concerns the position of the CST within the spinal cord white matter and its postsynaptic targets in the grey matter.

Comparative ABO blood group and rhesus factor distribution between homogenous and heterogenous populations in South Eastern Nigeria

open access: yesAsian Journal of Medical Sciences, 2019
Background: The ABO blood group and Rhesus (Rh) factor remain the most important blood group in transfusion medicine. Knowledge of ABO and rhesus blood group distribution within a population is indispensable for transfusion medicine, clinical and ...

Current Controversies in Prenatal Diagnosis—Conference Debate 2024: All Fetuses Undergoing Fetal Therapy Should Have Exome Sequencing

open access: yesPrenatal Diagnosis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This manuscript summarises the debate held at the 2024 annual meeting of The International Society for Prenatal Diagnosis (ISPD). Experts discussed whether all fetuses undergoing fetal therapy should undergo exome sequencing. Arguments in favor included that, with increasing experience and better clinical availability, exome sequencing can ...

Major and Trace Element Composition Differences Revealed in Porcine Intestine by Dynamic Analysis and MeV Ion Microscopy

open access: yesphysica status solidi (a), EarlyView.
Herein, C, N, and Ca concentration images in dry porcine intestine are used to determine trace element concentrations ex vivo. Physiologically relevant concentrations in biological tissue, in the in vivo, state are of the order of μmol L−1 and mmol L−1.

Peculiarities of Brain's Blood Flow : Role of Carbon Dioxide [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2011
Among the major factors controlling the cerebral blood flow (CBF), the effect of PaCO2 is peculiar in that it violates autoregulatory CBF mechanisms and allows to explore the full range of the CBF. This research resulted in a simple physical model, with a four parameter formula, relating the CBF to PaCO2.
