ABSTRACT Objective Determine if high‐dose intravenous magnesium with/without nebulized budesonide for children with acute severe asthma is safe and reduces time to medical readiness for discharge compared to standard intravenous magnesium. Methods Either 2 doses of intravenous magnesium or 1 dose and placebo, each with/without high‐dose nebulized ...

Oral Health, Periodontitis, and Respiratory Diseases: Biological Pathways
This narrative review aims to provide a comprehensive update on the potential mechanisms by which poor oral health and periodontitis impact lung health, focusing on pneumonia, COPD, and asthma. ABSTRACT Poor oral hygiene and periodontitis influence lung diseases such as pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), COVID‐19, and asthma.

Infection and Coinfection of Human Rhinovirus C in Stem Cell Transplant Recipients
In 54 adult stem cell transplant recipients, the presence and persistence of human rhinoviruses (including the novel lineage C) were evaluated by molecular detection and phylogenetic analysis, independently from respiratory symptoms. In the same group of

Viruses, Periodontitis, and Systemic Diseases
This narrative review aimed to summarize current evidence on the viral involvement in periodontitis and its relevance for systemic diseases. The oral cavity acts as an active viral reservoir and dissemination platform, where virus–microbiome interactions may promote dysbiosis, periodontitis progression, and systemic inflammatory effects, while the ...

In 53 lung transplant donor‐recipient pairs, community‐acquired respiratory viruses were incidentally detected by syndromic PCR in 13.2% of donor and 20.8% of recipient bronchoalveolar lavages, with exploratory, unadjusted signals towards longer hospitalization and chronic lung allograft dysfunction.

Fatal Respiratory Infections Associated with Rhinovirus Outbreak, Vietnam
During an outbreak of severe acute respiratory infections in 2 orphanages, Vietnam, 7/12 hospitalized children died. All hospitalized children and 26/43 children from outbreak orphanages tested positive for rhinovirus versus 9/40 control children (p = 0 ...

ABSTRACT Background Rhinovirus (RV) is a recognized respiratory pathogen, but its role in severe lower respiratory tract infections (LRTI) in adults remains debated. The aim of the study was to investigate RV in different clinical status categories at Hospital Sao Paulo, a tertiary facility in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

ABSTRACT Autosomal recessive HARS1‐related disorder (originally described as Usher syndrome type 3B) caused by a homozygous Y454S variant in the histidyl‐tRNA synthetase gene (HARS1) is characterized by progressive sensorineural hearing and vision loss and respiratory deterioration with risk for sudden death following febrile illnesses.

ABSTRACT Post‐pandemic influenza dynamics have shown unusual patterns globally. We investigated the re‐emergence and recurrent seasonal dominance of influenza B in Korea across three post‐pandemic seasons (2022−2026). We analyzed 157 consecutive weeks of national sentinel surveillance data (K‐SenS, Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency), covering

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.
