Nanomechanical Characterization of Apolipoprotein A-I Amyloid Fibrils

open access: yesEast European Journal of Physics, 2020
Amyloid fibrils represent a special type of protein aggregates that are currently receiving enormous attention due to their strong implication in molecular etiology of a wide range of human disorders.

A Transcriptomic Approach to Ribbon Worm Systematics (Nemertea): Resolving the Pilidiophora Problem [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Biology and Evolution, 2014
Resolving the deep relationships of ancient animal lineages has proven difficult using standard Sanger-sequencing approaches with a handful of markers. We thus reassess the relatively well-studied phylogeny of the phylum Nemertea (ribbon worms)-for which the targeted gene approaches had resolved many clades but had left key phylogenetic gaps-by using a

A Pipeline for Volume Electron Microscopy of the Caenorhabditis elegans Nervous System. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The "connectome," a comprehensive wiring diagram of synaptic connectivity, is achieved through volume electron microscopy (vEM) analysis of an entire nervous system and all associated non-neuronal tissues. White et al.

Differential geometry of polymer models: worm-like chains, ribbons and Fourier knots [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Physics A: Mathematical and Theoretical, 2007
We analyze several continuum models of polymers: worm-like chains, ribbons and Fourier knots. We show that the torsion of worm-like chains diverges and conclude that such chains can not be described by the Frenet-Serret (FS) equation of space curves.

Elasticity Theory of a Twisted Stack of Plates [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
We present an elastic model of B-form DNA as a stack of thin, rigid plates or base pairs that are not permitted to deform. The symmetry of DNA and the constraint of plate rigidity limit the number of bulk elastic constants contributing to a macroscopic ...

NMR Studies of Escherichia Coli Acyl Carrier Protein: Dynamic and Structural Differences of the Apo- and Holo-forms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Two indicators of conformational variability of Escherichia coli acyl carrier protein (ACP) have been investigated, namely backbone dynamics and chemical shift variations of ACP.

Investigation of Peptide Toxin Diversity in Ribbon Worms (Nemertea) Using a Transcriptomic Approach

open access: yesToxins, 2022
Nemertea is a phylum of nonsegmented worms (supraphylum: Spiralia), also known as ribbon worms. The members of this phylum contain various toxins, including peptide toxins. Here, we provide a transcriptomic analysis of peptide toxins in 14 nemertean species, including Cephalothrix cf. simula, which was sequenced in the current study.

X-ray measurements of stresses and defects in EFG and large grained polycrystalline silicon ribbons [PDF]

open access: yes, 1979
The Bond method was employed to measure the lattice parameter in an area of 0.4 mm in diameter of EFG Si-ribbons to an accuracy of + or - 0.00008 A. A Bond goniometer was built which included a goniostat with a special specimen holder to mount ribbons 1 ...

Freshwater Ribbon Worms (Nemertea) from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the North Carolina Academy of Science, 2014
Abstract Freshwater ribbon worms collected in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park from 9 June 2007 until 28 September 2010 are reported. All six specimens are identified as genus Prostoma. Species identification is not concluded and also no conclusion is made whether any of the specimens are of a new or undescribed species.

A Sponge-dwelling Ribbon Worm, Tetrastemma carneum sp. nov. (Nemertea: Monostilifera) Collected off Ofunato, Japan

open access: yesSpecies Diversity, 2023
Monostiliferous nemerteans are mostly benthic and free-living, but a few are recognized as commensal and parasitic species. We describe Tetrastemma carneum sp. nov.
