Comparative analysis of ribonuclease P RNA of the planctomycetes [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology, 2004
The planctomycetes, order Planctomycetales, are a distinct phylum of domain Bacteria. Genes encoding the RNA portion of ribonuclease P (RNase P) of some planctomycete members were sequenced and compared with existing database planctomycete sequences.

Specific Heat upon Aqueous Unfolding of the Protein Interior: A Theoretical Approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We study theoretically the thermodynamics, over a broad temperature range (5 C to 125 C), related to hydrated water upon protein unfolding. The hydration effect is modeled as interacting dipoles in an external field, mimicking the influence from the unfolded surfaces on the surrounding water compared to bulk water.

Cloning, expression and location of RNase9 in human epididymis

open access: yesBMC Research Notes, 2008
Background Mammalian spermatozoa become fully motile and fertile during transit through the luminal fluid of the epididymis. At least 200 proteins are present in the epididymal lumen, but the potential roles of these luminal proteins in male fertility ...

Molecular dynamics of C-peptide of ribonuclease A studied by replica-exchange Monte Carlo method and diffusion theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Generalized-ensemble algorithm and diffusion theory have been combined in order to compute the dynamical properties monitored by nuclear magnetic resonance experiments from efficient and reliable evaluation of statistical averages. Replica-exchange Monte Carlo simulations have been performed with a C-peptide analogue of ribonuclease A, and Smoluchowski

RNase footprinting demonstrates antigenomic hepatitis delta virus ribozyme structural rearrangement as a result of self-cleavage reaction

open access: yesBMC Research Notes, 2008
Background Hepatitis delta virus (HDV) is a satellite virus of hepatitis B. During viral replication the 1700-nucleotide-long genomic RNA and its complement, the antigenomic RNA, undergo self-cleavage catalyzed by internal ribozyme motifs that are ...

Ribonucleases P/MRP and the Expanding Ribonucleoprotein World [PDF]

open access: yesIUBMB Life, 2012
AbstractOne of the hallmarks of life is the widespread use of certain essential ribozymes. The ubiquitous ribonuclease P (RNase P) and eukaryotic RNase MRP are essential complexes where a structured, noncoding RNA acts in catalysis. Recent discoveries have elucidated the three‐dimensional structure of the ancestral ribonucleoprotein complex, suggested ...

Novel Aspects of Polynucleotide Phosphorylase Function in Streptomyces

open access: yesAntibiotics, 2018
Polynucleotide phosphorylase (PNPase) is a 3′–5′-exoribnuclease that is found in most bacteria and in some eukaryotic organelles. The enzyme plays a key role in RNA decay in these systems.

A possible mechanism for cold denaturation of proteins at high pressure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We study cold denaturation of proteins at high pressures. Using multicanonical Monte Carlo simulations of a model protein in a water bath, we investigate the effect of water density fluctuations on protein stability. We find that above the pressure where water freezes to the dense ice phase ($\approx2$ kbar), the mechanism for cold denaturation with ...

Reducing conditions are the key for efficient production of active ribonuclease inhibitor in Escherichia coli

open access: yesMicrobial Cell Factories, 2011
Background The eukaryotic RNase ribonuclease/angiogenin inhibitors (RI) are a protein group distinguished by a unique structure - they are composed of hydrophobic leucine-rich repeat motifs (LRR) and contain a high amount of reduced cysteine residues ...

K–8 Classroom Self-Collection Using XpressCollect Nasal Swab: A Usability and Efficacy Study

open access: yesDiagnostics, 2022
This study demonstrates that students in kindergarten through eighth grade can use the XpressCollect nasal swab to self-collect a specimen under the guidance of a teacher. This phased study was conducted with parents, teachers, and students. Phases 1 and
